The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are the protagonists of the Darksiders series. They are well-known as the Council's enforcers since their mission is to keep the Balance in check.
WAR[]
War is the main protagonist of Darksiders. He is the youngest of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and a Nephilim. Framed by Abaddon for starting the Apocalypse too soon, War was wrongly imprisoned by The Charred Council for over one hundred years. After being released he journeyed to the remains of Earth to find justice and clear his name.
While not much is known about War's past, it is established that he is feared by both Angels and Demons, and it is hinted that he shares unpleasant histories with many.
Though once amongst the nephilim as they burned worlds under Absalom, War swore loyalty to the Charred Council with his three siblings in the name of preserving the balance.
Before they could fully take up their mantles as the Four Horseman, War and his siblings were sent to the Far Fields and the mysterious being known only as the Horsemaster. The Horsemaster demanded that they discard their weapons as the ancient beasts they sought to tame would bow only to their will. War proposed a wager as to who would tame their horse first. Fury and Strife proceeded to needle War about his tendency to boast, but the Horsemaster criticized them for bickering like children. Death, silent during the exchange, charged into the stampeding horses without a backward glance. He soon grabbed ahold of one horse and mounted it. The Nephilim gained control of it and directed it back to the Horsemaster and his siblings, where he named it Despair as its appearance changed to bone and pale dead flesh to reflect its master. The Red Rider presumably tamed Ruin shortly thereafter.
The four newly named Horsemen were sent to destroy their own kind at Eden, which the Nephilim under Absalom were attempting to conquer. War joined his brothers and sister in battle and together they brought about the annihilation of all the Nephilim save themselves.
And he is reprised by Liam O'Brien in the English dub and he will be voiced by Kazuya Nakai in the Japanese dub.
DEATH[]
Death is the main protagonist of Darksiders II.
He is the leader and most powerful of the Four Horsemen. He is the eldest of the surviving Nephilim ever since he and the other Horsemen carried out the extermination of the rest of their kind on the orders of the Charred Council. He is feared throughout the Darksiders universe, more so than any of the other Horsemen.
Death's past is mysterious and by all indications, he prefers it that way. What is known is that he is one of the oldest of his kind, the Nephilim, one of the Firstborn. When the Nephilim went on their world-destroying crusade under Absalom, it was he, as the closest thing they had to a crafter, that suggested the creation of the lesser and Grand Abominations from the bodies of the Ravaiim, the race that inhabited the first world the Nephilim attacked. This was, indeed, the very reason they targeted the Ravaiim's world. These were terrible weapons made of metal meshed with sinew, organs, and flesh, far more powerful than the Nephilim's other efforts, such as the sword Affliction and Death's scythe, Harvester. They were eventually sealed away by the Firstborn in the Abomination Vault, though not before many were lost or destroyed on battlefields like Kothysos.
He led three other Nephilim; War, Fury, and Strife, away from the rest of their kind, defecting to serve the Charred Council at some point before the final battle at Eden.

Now fully fledged Horsemen of the Apocalypse and imbued with great power by the Charred Council, Death donned his executioner's mask and led the Four Horsemen against the Nephilim at Eden alongside the forces of the Angels. As he slaughtered his fellow Nephilim, Death gathered their souls in a green amulet he wore around his neck. Eventually, he dueled Absalom himself and slew the first Nephilim personally. Seemingly grieved by this action, Death took Absalom's hand but the leader of the Nephilim was dragged down into darkness and, unbeknownst to Death at the time, became Corruption. After that day, the Horseman rarely ever removed his mask if at all. The Charred Council ordered Death to destroy the amulet, but he disobeyed them. He gave the amulet to the Crowfather to keep safe and had Dust bound to him to link him and the Crowfather, allowing the ancient being to carry the amulet. With the other Firstborn gone, Death was also the only being in existence that knew the location of the Abomination Vault.
And he is reprised by Michael Wincott in the English dub and he will be voiced by Akio Otsuka in the Japanese dub.
FURY[]
Fury is the protagonist of Darksiders III.
She is one of the last of the Nephilimand a Horseman of The Apocalypse. She was the Rider of the Black Horse known as Rampage. Fury wields a blade whip as her weapon, and can also use her magic against her enemies.
Fury was born to the Nephilim race and took part in the genocidal crusade against many worlds. However, unlike her siblings who saw their kind's genocidal rampage as a threat to the balance, Fury only saw an opportunity for her own gain when her siblings went to The Charred Council.
Whereas the other three immediately swore their loyalty to the Charred Council, Fury snapped at her would-be masters by demanding that they get things moving along. Once Fury calmed down, the pact was completed and the four horsemen were granted unimaginable power.

Shortly after Death's tamed Despair, the others follow suit and Fury attained her steed, Rampage, who became her only companion for many years and comes to be one of the few things that she truly loves.
The Horsemen's first task was to purge their kind from creation, to which Fury and her brothers, except for Death, carried out without any remorse.
And she is reprised by Cissy Jones in the English dub and will be voiced by Mamiko Noto in the Japanese dub.
STRIFE[]
Strife is one of the last of the Nephilim and a Horseman of The Apocalypse. He is the rider of the White Horse, named Mayhem. He wields two large revolvers Mercy and Redemption as his primary weapon of choice. His secondary weapons are two curved daggers for close combat. His current whereabouts are unknown.
Strife was born to the Nephilim race and took part in their genocidal crusade against many worlds. However, along with his siblings Death, Fury, and War, Strife grew weary of the threat their kind represents to the balance. The four left their brethren and swore loyalty to The Charred Council in exchange for unimaginable power. During the ceremony, Strife watched as Fury caused a ruckus due to her impatience.
The Council made the four convene with one of their servants, The Horsemaster, who guided them in the process of taming the Phantom Horses that would become their mounts. Leaving their weapons in a pile on the ground War wagered with his siblings as to whom would tame their horse first, Strife and Fury would needle him in turn about his tendency to boast, but the Horsemaster criticized them for bickering like children. Shortly after Death's tamed Despair, the others follow suit and Strife attained his steed, Mayhem,
The Horsemen's first task was to purge their kind from creation and met them on the field of battle in Eden. While the horsemen carried out their task and succeeded, Strife would feel great guilt over his actions. As time went on, Strife would question the necessity of wiping out the Nephilim, acknowledging that they were wrong to try and take Eden, while feeling like the Charred Council either made a mistake or intentionally forced the Horsemen to commit such an act as a test of loyalty.
And he is reprised by Phil LaMarr in the English dub and will be voiced by Ryota Ozawa in the Japanese dub.
