Classic Eggman
Doctor Ivo Robotnik, better known by the alias Doctor Eggman is the main antagonist of the Sonic the Hedgehog series. A brilliant scientist with an IQ of 300, Eggman is driven by a desire to conquer the world and establish his own empire, the Eggman Empire. Central to his vision is Eggmanland (referred to in some material "Robotropolis"), a city he seeks to build as the backbone of his regime. His ambitions are fueled by his love of machines and extreme egomania.
Eggman continually devises plots to achieve world domination, which range from using Animals to power his robots - known as Badniks - to constructing massive war machines, harnessing ancient powers, and manipulating spacetime itself. Despite his genius, his plans are always foiled by Sonic the Hedgehog and his friends. Nevertheless, Eggman remains undeterred, always managing to escape capture and continuing his quest for conquest. His narcissism and immature behavior often lead to his downfall, but his unrelenting pursuit of power makes him one of the most dangerous threats in the universe.
Not much is known about Dr. Eggman's early life and it’s unknown how he became a doctor, though he was born as Ivo Robotnik and came from a large family of brilliant scientists and geniuses. When he was a child, he never had a chance to meet his cousin, Maria, before she died in the aftermath of Project Shadow, partly because his father and uncle ended up estranged as a result of Gerald's focus on Project Shadow. Even then, he would somewhat bear her ill will due to everyone speaking of her when she was dead for years instead of giving him the attention he needed. Despite his contempt, he did nevertheless acknowledge he took her untimely demise and the circumstances behind her death personally to some extent. In contrast, he deeply idolized his grandfather, Professor Gerald Robotnik, because of all of his achievements and accomplishments in his life. This inspired a young Ivo to become a great scientist like his hero did. During his career to fulfill his dream, Robotnik allegedly followed a teaching degree, apparently because he liked telling people what to do, but did not get it for unknown reasons. Robotnik was also a fairly competent Extreme Gear rider when he was "younger", though the legitimacy of this claim is unknown.
At one point, Dr. Robotnik, due to his arrogance and immaturity, began envisioning a planetary empire with him as its leader to constantly be at the center of attention. These factors would eventually make him so obsessed with accomplishing his dream that he was utterly convinced by his own twisted beliefs and lack of common sense that the results of a world conquest orchestrated by him would make it a better place and benefit all its inhabitants.
In the past, Dr. Robotnik met the heroic Sonic the Hedgehog and the two became enemies, with the villain facing his new adversary in at least one conflict before the time of the South Island incident. While very little is known about their battles in this period, the doctor would develop an intense, mutual hatred towards the hedgehog, who would always thwart all of his plans for world domination with seemingly little effort; and in turn began considering him his sworn enemy. At a later point, Sonic also began to mock his nemesis with the nickname "Eggman" due to his egg-shaped body; Robotnik himself would eventually get so fed up with this name that he would adopt it as his own as a sign of empowerment.
In the 16-bit version of Sonic the Hedgehog (1991), frustrated by Sonic's ability to foil his plans, Dr. Eggman developed a plan to invade South Island and get the legendary Chaos Emeralds, whose power he sought to exploit to annex the entire world into his Eggman Empire as a stepping stone to build his utopia, "Eggmanland". With this plan in mind, the doctor and his minions launched a full-scale assault on South Island. He soon after built his new stronghold, the Scrap Brain, at the northern corner of the island, where he would develop his operations. Soon after, he began kidnapping the island's Animals and using most of them to power his Badnik servants. The remaining Animals would be left trapped in Capsules around South Island. Eggman subsequently sent his robots off to find the Chaos Emeralds, swearing that he was going to get them even if he had to tear all of South Island apart.
It did not take long for Sonic to get the news of Eggman's actions and rush to defeat him. Eventually, in Green Hill, the doctor encountered the hedgehog and told him that he would win with the entire island under his control. Despite his conviction, Eggman began being pushed back by his nemesis, who steadily liberated the captured Animals and found the Chaos Emeralds one by one. The doctor himself tried on several occasions to defeat the hedgehog with his various contraptions and vehicles, but was defeated during every encounter. After Sonic invaded the Scrap Brain, Eggman sent him into the ruins underneath the fortress with a trap. However, the doctor soon encountered him again in his laboratory. There, Eggman tried to crush his nemesis with his Egg Crusher. Upon Eggman's defeat however, a chain reaction was triggered that caused Eggman's entire fortress to explode. This forced the doctor to escape using his nearby Egg Mobile, although not before Sonic dealt a final blow to the hovercraft, causing him to crash.
In Sonic the Hedgehog CD, after the South Island incident, Dr. Eggman took notice of the mystical Little Planet during its annual appearance over Never Lake. He then learned that the planetoid was hosting the Time Stones, which could be used to control time. Seeing the stones as his perfect tool for world conquest, the doctor secured Little Planet for himself by chaining it to a nearby mountain with his own face sculpted on it. After this, he built a huge stronghold on the planetoid and set out to achieve his ambition of world conquest by acquiring the Time Stones and using them to freely command time itself. Though he did not allegedly invade Little Planet's past, this timeline was filled with robot transporters and Metal Sonic holograms of his, thus allowing him to cause chaos in Little Planet's future and gain total control of it. As expected however, this made the planet a peaceless place as the local Animals were hiding in fear and its locations were heavily polluted in the future time period. Also worth noting is that, during this incident, Eggman was served by his greatest creation to date: Metal Sonic, a robotic doppelgänger of Sonic who could match his nemesis' speed and power.
Eventually, Eggman found out that Sonic was approaching Never Lake. With a sinister smile being drawn on his face, the doctor proudly proclaimed that he would finally be able to defeat his nemesis and conquer the world. However, he soon got pushed back by Sonic as the hedgehog began restoring the future of Little Planet's regions. The doctor tried to defeat Sonic himself on numerous occasions with his machines, but failed each time. Eventually, in Stardust Speedway, Eggman challenged Sonic to a race against Metal Sonic. Despite that, his plan to kill his enemy upon his defeat failed when the hedgehog managed to win over his robot copy, who got smashed against a gate, and mercilessly destroyed by the ruthlessness of Eggman himself. Later, the doctor desperately tried to defeat Sonic with his Egg Spinner when he found him in his stronghold. However, he was ultimately defeated, causing a chain reaction that destroyed the metallic shell covering Little Planet while Sonic escaped with Amy Rose.
In Sonic the Hedgehog 2, following the Little Planet incident, Dr. Eggman heard of the stories surrounding West Side Island that claimed the Chaos Emeralds were resting somewhere on the island. Intending to get the gems to power his ultimate weapon, the Death Egg, he found the island by following Sonic there while the latter was out flying in the Tornado.
Landing on West Side Island, Dr. Eggman spent the next few days kidnapping the local Animals and using them to power his Badnik army. Eventually, he and his minions were able to take control of everything on the island. Soon after, the doctor began a rampage in a forest, violently burning it down as his army teared it up to find the Chaos Emeralds. During this, the villain laughed out loud and gloated in pride that he would get the jewels and conquer the world.
Unfortunately for Eggman, Sonic soon set out with his new sidekick, Miles "Tails" Prower, to foil his operations. On several occasions after that, the doctor would clash with the duo in his mechs, only to be defeated in each encounter. Eventually, after his defeat in Metropolis, the villain escaped to his air fortress, the Wing Fortress, only for the heroes to follow him there. Onboard the vessel, the scientist trapped the hedgehog in his Laser Prison upon being cornered, only for his nemesis to destroy it. As his Wing Fortress then began to fall, Eggman fled to his Death Egg, which was orbiting the planet, in his space rocket. Unfortunately for him, Sonic had managed to hitch a ride on the space rocket to the space station.
Onboard the Death Egg, Dr. Eggman attempted to use Mecha Sonic to defeat Sonic. After his robot was defeated though, he fled from the hedgehog as the latter chased him. Despite the odds, the doctor was able to outrun his nemesis for long enough to enter his final trump card: the Death Egg Robot. After a heated battle however, the mech was destroyed, triggering a chain-reaction onboard the Death Egg that caused it to explode, leaving Eggman's plans in ruins while Sonic escaped to safety.
In Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and the lock-on game Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Dr. Eggman and his Death Egg entered the Earth's orbit after Sonic had damaged the spaceship. On the Death Egg's way to the surface of the planet, however, was Angel Island, a landmass that floats in the sky thanks to the Master Emerald. After the Death Egg collided with Angel Island's surface, the island fell on top of the ocean, causing a great tsunami on the Earth. Having survived the crash, Eggman was aware that the Chaos Emeralds were on Angel Island. He also tracked the energy of the Master Emerald, which he could use to power the Death Egg and send it to space again. As such, he started to build his own base on the island, kidnapped the local Animals to turn them into Badniks, and changed the nature of Angel Island to a more severe one by using an environment-changing machine.
Days later, in a forest on Angel Island, Eggman came across Knuckles the Echidna. Having learned about the echidna's position as the guardian of the island, the doctor falsely claimed that he was a scientist who was investigating the Death Egg incident, and that Sonic was coming to steal the Master Emerald. Knuckles fell for Eggman's lies and agreed to help him stop Sonic upon his arrival.
Some time after, Eggman and Knuckles tried in vain to attack Sonic and Tails as the heroes were making their way through Angel Island. He fought them at Angel Island, Hydrocity Zone, Marble Garden Zone, Carnival Night Zone and Ice Cap Zone but ended up beaten every time. At the Launch Base Zone, Eggman launched the Death Egg even without any energy source. However, Sonic and Tails had gotten aboard the Death Egg just in time to have a final showdown against the doctor who used a mech called Big Arms to beat them. After Eggman was defeated, a chain reaction caused the Death Egg to be critically damaged, making it and Eggman plummeted onto Angel Island again as Sonic and Tails watched.
In Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Dr. Eggman and the Death Egg fell onto Angel Island again, this time in Lava Reef, the island's active volcano system. As Sonic and Tails continued their adventure to destroy the spaceship for once and for all, Eggman and Knuckles made numerous other tried to slow down the heroes, only to fail. In Lava Reef, the doctor used the Death Egg's laser eyes to re-activate the volcano to burn the heroes alive. Despite the odds though, Sonic and Tails still survived the incident. Having had enough, Eggman went to the Hidden Palace and stole the Master Emerald using the Egg Mobile while Knuckles was distracted having a showdown against Sonic and Tails. However, the noise he made caused the three to discover him as the echidna discovered his true colors. Infuriated over this, Knuckles tried to take the Master Emerald from the doctor, only for Eggman to electrocute him by using electrical cords from the Egg Mobile.
Having successfully managed to re-launch the Death Egg, Dr. Eggman passed through the Sky Sanctuary as Sonic, Tails and Knuckles watched. With no time to waste, Sonic and Tails managed to get aboard the Death Egg as Knuckles was left behind. Now with the Death Egg into space, Eggman had a showdown against the heroes aboard the Giant Eggman Robo. As a chain reaction was triggered to destroy the space station, the doctor managed to use the Final Weapon to escape with the Master Emerald. However, Sonic transformed into Super Sonic/Hyper Sonic and managed to defeat him.
Later on, Dr. Eggman was revealed to have survived. After the Final Weapon fell into Earth, he got stranded in the middle of the ocean with nothing but a lifebuoy. However, a Flicky soon after appeared. Though the doctor begged it not to pop the lifebuoy, the bird ended up doing so anyway.
In Sonic the Hedgehog (8-bit), Dr. Eggman learned of the Chaos Emeralds and their incredible power, prompting him to launch an attack on South Island, where he kidnapped the local Animals and put them into Capsules. He then sent his Badniks to find the Chaos Emeralds, while he built his massive fortress - the Scrap Brain - on top of a mountain.
Unfortunately for Eggman, Sonic soon came to South Island, where he collected the Chaos Emeralds one by one and steadily freed the captive Animals. Along the way, Eggman himself tried on several occasions to defeat Sonic with his various contraptions and vehicles, but was defeated during every encounter. When Sonic eventually made it to the Scrap Brain, Eggman escaped to his blimp. With Sonic pursuing him up there however, the doctor tried to defeat Sonic in a trap-filled room, only to fail. Thankfully, Eggman managed to escape using a nearby teleporter. While fleeing through Green Hill in his Egg Mobile however, Sonic appeared above him thanks to Eggman's own teleporter and dealt Eggman's Egg Mobile a crippling blow, causing it to crash with him in it.
In Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (8-bit), while Sonic was gone, Dr. Eggman invaded South Island and kidnapped all of its local Animals, including Sonic's closest friend, Miles "Tails" Prower. He would also station his six Master Robots in various locations. The doctor would hold Tails prisoner in the Crystal Egg, where the fox a note to Sonic that explained to him his whereabouts and what the doctor was doing. Tails also explained that Eggman wanted Sonic to get the Chaos Emeralds and hand them over to him to get to the Crystal Egg and free him.
After Sonic got Tails' note and set out on his rescue mission, Dr. Eggman saved Sonic from falling into a lava pool in Under Ground before making him battle the Pit Master. Much later, after Sonic had gathered the Chaos Emeralds, Eggman had a showdown against Sonic in a trap-ridden room. However, Eggman was defeated, forcing him to escape via a teleporter, which deposited Tails from it after the doctor had escaped through it.
In SegaSonic the Hedgehog, Dr. Eggman captured Sonic, Mighty and Ray and imprisoned them on Eggman Island where he planned to execute them. When the heroes broke out of their cell though, the villain blew them to the other side of his island. From there, the doctor remained in his control tower where he tried to stop the trio on their journey to him with remote-controlled traps. When the trio got to him however, Eggman triggered the tower to self-destruct within twenty seconds. Though he got away, his plan to destroy his enemies failed, as they escaped Eggman Island in time. Meanwhile, the villain was flying over the ocean with the Egg Mobile when his vehicle ran out of fuel, sending the unlucky doctor plummeting into the water.
In Sonic Chaos, while Sonic and Tails were out on an adventure, Dr. Eggman resurfaced with the intention of stealing the six Chaos Emeralds on South Island. When he took one of the gems, however, the other five scattered. This destabilized the island, causing it to slowly sink into the ocean. Soon after, the doctor began being hunted down by Sonic and Tails.
When Sonic and Tails made it to Dr. Eggman's fortress, the Electric Egg, the villain fought them in a Laser Walker mech, but was defeated. Although the doctor managed to escape, he accidentally dropped his Chaos Emerald, allowing the heroes to reclaim it and save South Island.
In Sonic Drift, Dr. Eggman took part of a race competition alongside Sonic, Tails, and Amy. For this event, the doctor drove the Egg Typhoon, a modified Eggman Mobile. Throughout the competition, Eggman had to win a series of races taking place in various regions on South Island. In a possible outcome, he would actually win, boasting about his victory to an annoyed Sonic, who would give chase to his nemesis on foot while the doctor cowardly ran away.
In Sonic Drift 2, Dr. Eggman took part of another race competition where he drove the Egg Typhoon again. This time, he had to win a series of races against Sonic, Tails, Amy, Nack, Knuckles, and Metal Sonic. At the end of the competition, he would race the blue hedgehog on the Death Egg.
In the 16-bit version of Sonic Spinball, in an attempt to turn the Animals of Planet Mobius into robots, Dr. Eggman took control of Mount Mobius. On this mountain, the doctor created the Veg-O-Fortress, a fiendish contraption powered by the mountain's volcano, which was robotizing Animals at an incredibly fast rate. To protect his fortress, Eggman constructed a lethal defense system powered by the volcano, called the Pinball Defense System. Sonic and Tails soon mounted an air assault on the fortress, only to get blasted by Eggman's cannons. Unfortunately for Eggman, Sonic survived the attack and began making his way up through the Veg-O-Fortress's defense system, seizing the Chaos Emeralds that kept the fortress stable and freeing the Animals of Mobius along the way. When the Veg-O-Fortress began to crumble, Eggman tried to escape in a spaceship, but got intercepted and defeated by Sonic. Falling from space upon his defeat, Eggman landed in the sea around his Veg-O-Fortress, just as it sank into the sea.
In Sonic the Hedgehog Triple Trouble, while hiding from Sonic, Dr. Eggman managed to get six of the Chaos Emeralds, which he began to use to test his ultimate weapon: the Atomic Destroyer. While the extent of these experiments is uncertain, it is known that the results of these included leaving a nearby island in permanent winter. However, in the midst of these tests, the Emeralds disappeared out of nowhere upon an accident. Having only found the yellow Emerald, the doctor knew that the hedgehog and Tails were bound to come and thwart his plans. To delay them, he tricked Knuckles into believing that the heroes were out to steal the gems for world domination. He also brought up Metal Sonic to dispose of the duo at a later moment.
Eventually, Dr. Eggman captured Knuckles after he was defeated by Sonic and Tails in Tidal Plant, trapping the echidna in an energy cage in his fortress. When the heroes infiltrated this stronghold soon after and defeated Metal Sonic, the doctor himself stepped in and faced his nemeses in three different contraptions, but his efforts ended in failure. In the aftermath, the villain dropped his last Chaos Emerald while fleeing, while Sonic and Tails liberated Knuckles and made peace with him.
In Knuckles' Chaotix, some months after the Angel Island incident, a mysterious island was formed due to tectonic movement caused by the power of the Master Emerald's Pillar. Theorizing that something was amplifying the power of the Pillar, Dr. Eggman traveled to the newly-formed island to investigate. There, he came across a small Ring with ancient writing, revealing that the place was part of a lost civilization, and later across a Giant Ring that looked exactly like the ones on Angel Island. Eggman then made an astonishing discovery: this massive Ring could lead him to a "power stone", which he believed to be the Master Emerald. He also learned that the mysterious spaces the Giant Rings lead to were filled with the energy of the Pillar that was turned into crystaline bodies named Chaos Rings. Eggman figured out that, if he figured out the secrets of the Rings, he would be bestowed the ability to summon the Master Emerald. With a new plan in mind, he began turning the island into a massive resort named Newtrogic High Zone, which would serve as his research station for the Rings.
When Knuckles, also curious about the nature of Newtrogic High Zone, arrived on the nearby Isolated Island, Dr. Eggman had already managed to crystalize the Chaos Rings' energies into seven artificial Dark Rings. In addition to that, he had also developed a Ring Power that would create a space-time connection between the Rings. Seeing as his new plot to conquer the world was being successfully realized, the doctor gloated that nothing would stop him from achieving global domination. Later, on Isolated Island, Eggman was trapping Espio the Chameleon inside of a Combi Catcher, before meeting Knuckles, who would liberate the prisoner. Meanwhile, the villain escaped thanks to Metal Sonic's help.
Eggman's plans would be put back by Knuckles, Mighty, Heavy the Robot, Bomb, and Team Chaotix; all of whom joined forces to put a stop to the doctor's plans. The villain would ocassionally fight the heroes in his mechs, but had no success in delaying their efforts. Eventually, after the crew found all seven Dark Rings and defeated Metal Sonic, Eggman made use of another Dark Ring to turn the robot into a titanic monster: Metal Sonic Kai. However, after this last-ditch attempt failed too, the doctor's plans were foiled once again.
In Sonic Labyrinth, Eggman was brainstorming for new ideas to defeat Sonic. He eventually realized that it was the hedgehog's speed that foiled his plans. As such, he created the Slow Down Boots, which stripped anyone who wore them off of their speed. The doctor then replaced Sonic's shoes with the Slow Down Boots to prevent his nemesis from thwarting his plans ever again.
The next day, no sooner had Dr. Eggman received the news that Sonic had fallen into his trap and put on the Slow Down Boots, than he adquired the Chaos Emeralds and started building a Super Labyrinth-based Eggmanland on South Island. The doctor, with his head up in the clouds due to his good mood, gloated out loud that the Slow Down Boots were made with Chaos Emerald energy, and thus the hedgehog could only take them off with the Emeralds in the Super Labyrinth. As such, Sonic broke into the fortress and managed to get the Emeralds one by one. In the end, Eggman was defeated and his nemesis used the Chaos Emeralds to dispose of the Slow Down Boots for good.
In Sonic the Fighters, Dr. Eggman built the Death Egg II, which he used to dispatch destructive robot armies from space down to Earth to avenge his constant defeats. In order to stop the doctor from causing more chaos, Sonic and his friends battled each other to see who would get the eight Chaos Emeralds first and use the Lunar Fox to go to the doctor's spaceship and battle him. Along the way, Eggman himself made occasional appearances, creating clones of the heroes to fight them.
Eventually, the winner used the Lunar Fox to go to the Death Egg II, where they defeated Metal Sonic. During a later fight against Dr. Eggman, a self-destruct countdown activated to destroy the Death Egg II. Fortunately though, the hero defeated the doctor and fleed from the spaceship as it exploded. However, Eggman managed to escape as well.
In Sonic 3D Blast, Dr. Eggman discovered Flicky Island with his spy satellite. According to legend, this island was inhabited by Flickies that served as clues for the Chaos Emeralds' locations. Having heard of this legend, the doctor headed to the island to catch the birds. After his arrival though, he found no trace of any of them. Then, he saw a flock of Flickies popping out of a Dimensional Ring to eat some nuts on the trees, before going back through the Ring. With this observation, Eggman figured out that the birds were coming in and out through subspaces using the Dimensional Rings. He proceeded to built a Dimensional Ring Generator, which he used to capture the Flickies and put them inside of his Badniks. When he later saw Sonic arrive on the island, the doctor gloated to him that he would finally be able to conquer the world before flying away in his Egg Mobile.
Unfortunately for Eggman, Sonic was able to steadily foil his operations across the island. On several occasions, the doctor tried to defeat his arch-nemesis using different mechs, but was defeated in every encounter. Eventually, the hedgehog found his way to Eggman's base with the aid of the Chaos Emeralds and the Flickies, prompting the doctor to face him in a final fight using his Final Weapon. However, Eggman was ultimately defeated by Sonic, and Flicky Island was freed from his rule.
In Sonic Blast, Dr. Eggman attempted to fire at Sonic with a laser beam while the hedgehog was sleeping in his hammock on South Island. However, he missed his target and instead hit the Chaos Emerald on the hedgehog's hand, causing it to shatter into five smaller shards that flew away. Pleased with the results nonetheless, the doctor revealed himself to his nemesis and gloated that he could now built a floating stronghold known as the Silver Castle, now with Sonic unable to use the Emerald against him, which he planned to find after finishing his fortress. The villain left the scene, confident that he would finally be victorious. However, when Knuckles revealed himself to have overheard the conversation, he teamed up with the hedgehog and the two declared to Eggman that they would foil his ambitions.
As expected, Eggman's plans began being thwarted by Sonic and Knuckles, as the duo traveled across South Island and collect the Chaos Emeralds' shards while defeating the doctor whenever he showed up in a mech to stop them. Onboard the Silver Castle, Eggman had two battles against the heroes, but was defeated, causing his stronghold to fall into the sea with him in it while the group escaped.
In Sonic R, Dr. Eggman detected that the Chaos Emeralds were hidden somewhere along the tracks of the World Grand Prix. He thus signed up to participate in the competition, causing Sonic to participate as well to defeat him. However, this was all part of the doctor's plan: by getting Sonic and his friends to compete in the World Grand Prix, they would collect the seven Emeralds for him, which he could then easily steal from them and use to conquer the world. He then proceeded to laugh maniacally, believing that his dreams of world domination would finally become a reality. In the end though, his plans were never fully realized.
In Sonic Adventure, whilst building a stronghold, the Final Egg, at the Mystic Ruins, Eggman discovered a nearby ancient temple, in which he found stone tablets depicting the power of the Chaos Emeralds and Chaos, a mighty beast who wiped out a society known as the Knuckles Clan millenia ago. Through these tablets, the doctor learned that this creature's power would increase by giving him Chaos Emeralds and still existed sealed in the Master Emerald. Eager to use the monster's power to his advantage, he made a plan to gather the Emeralds to empower Chaos and use him to destroy Station Square, where he would build Eggmanland. With this new idea, he finished the Final Egg and moved on to another project: the Egg Carrier, an all-purpose aerial fortress. He also built the E-100 Series robots, an army of elite Badniks to help him embark on the destruction of Station Square.
As the Egg Carrier was being finished, Eggman began working on gathering the most powerful E-100 Series robots to assemble a crew to protect the aerial fortress, pitting two robots, E-101 Beta and E-102 Gamma, against each other to see which was stronger. In the end, Gamma won, but the doctor decided to use Beta for spare parts. When the Egg Carrier launched, the doctor went to Angel Island and shattered the Master Emerald, releasing Chaos in the process. Eggman followed the beast to Station Square, where he watched a battle between him and Sonic, fully confident in Chaos' power despite his defeat.
Eggman eventually managed to tame Chaos. At the Mystic Ruins the next day, he found Sonic and Tails near the latter's workshop, where he declared that he wanted the seven Chaos Emeralds and demanded the duo to give him the Emerald they had. The heroes refused, resulting in a battle in which the doctor piloted an Egg Hornet-based Egg Mobile. Despite his defeat, Eggman managed to snatch the Chaos Emerald from Tails' hands while the fox's guard was down, and presented Chaos to his nemeses, demonstrating his power by giving him the Emerald, transforming him into Chaos 1, just as the stone tablets had predicted. A joyful Eggman revealed his plans to the heroes and left with Chaos.
That night, Eggman was in Station Square when he found Sonic and Tails leave Casinopolis with two Chaos Emeralds. Releasing sleeping gas from his Egg Mobile, he made the duo fall unconscious, but only took one Emerald from them. With it, he went to the nearby hotel, but was spotted by Knuckles there. Believing the stolen Chaos Emerald was a shard of the Master Emerald, the echidna confronted the doctor, who summoned Chaos and gave him the Emerald, turning him into Chaos 2, whom he sent to fight Knuckles. When Knuckles prevailed, Eggman lied saying that Sonic was hunting for the Master Emerald's shards as well, allowing him to leave as the echidna went after Sonic.
The next day, Eggman returned to the Mystic Ruins, where he oversaw Knuckles fight Sonic and Tails and make them lose their two Chaos Emeralds, which he snatched and gave to Chaos, transforming him into Chaos 4. Even though the beast was defeated again by the three, the doctor managed to escape to his Egg Carrier. After shooting down Sonic and Tails pursuing in the Tornado, he tasked his E-100 robots to find Froggy, who had swallowed a Chaos Emerald and had Chaos' tail. As he revised his minions' findings, the doctor scolded them for failing to find the right frog. However, when he saw Froggy in Gamma's hands, he did not last in praising him for his effectiveness, while also disposing of the other robots. It would also be revealed soon after that the doctor was gruesomely remodeling Beta to make him a better robot. Afterwards, Eggman made Gamma get Birdie, a small bird who was held captive alongside Amy in the Egg Carrier's Prison Hall, and who had a Chaos Emerald. Soon after, however, his ship was being raided by Sonic and Tails, forcing the doctor to send Gamma to fight the duo. Soon after, he encountered the hedgehog, Knuckles and Big, and summoned Chaos, giving him two more Chaos Emeralds and turning him into Chaos 6. However, when the beast was defeated, the doctor fled from the Egg Carrier, which was beginning to fall to the ocean, as Sonic tried and failed to catch him. In the aftermath, Eggman resorted to launching a missile in order to destroy Station Square to avenge the destruction of the Egg Carrier. The missile failed to detonate on impact, and was disarmed completely by Tails. Furious, the doctor attacked the fox in his Egg Walker machine. After a fight, the villain was defeated, forcing him to retreat to the Final Egg. On his way, he was spotted by Sonic, and engaged in one final showdown with the hedgehog in his base, piloting the Egg Viper. This attempt to defeat his nemesis ended in failure, however, and the base was leveled.
Retreating through the jungle, a fuming Dr. Eggman discovered Chaos had survived the battle on the Egg Carrier. The creature, however, went rogue and attacked the doctor, who fled towards Angel Island to seek help from Knuckles. Chaos followed him there and found six of the Chaos Emeralds, taking them all and knocking out both the echidna and Eggman. Sonic and Tails arrived shortly after to investigate why Angel Island had not yet ascended back into the sky, and found the victims unconscious. When he recovered, the villain vowed to take revenge on Chaos and set off back to his ruined base, where the Egg Carrier 2 was docked in case a scenario like this was possible. Later, when the creature became Perfect Chaos after consuming the last Emerald, he traveled to Station Square and flooded the city, leaving it in ruins. The doctor attacked Chaos in the Egg Carrier 2, but this had no effect; with one blast, Perfect Chaos managed to completely decimate Eggman's ship, with the doctor sent hurtling off in the explosion that followed. He was soon after revealed to have survived though, only turning up again just in time to witness Sonic's victory against Chaos, before withdrawing in his Egg Mobile.
In Sonic Shuffle, Dr. Eggman learned of the power of the Precioustone and followed Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy into Maginaryworld in hopes of stealing the powerful gem. Although he would confront his enemies on several occasions, his plans were never realized.
In Sonic Adventure 2, Dr. Eggman happened to come across the diary of his grandfather, Gerald Robotnik, wherein he found out about a top-secret military weapon called "Project Shadow" that was shut down over fifty years ago. Eager to use this weapon for his own plans, the doctor, armed with his Eggwalker, attacked Prison Island, where the weapon was resting, and broke into its underground base. Happening upon the cryogenic vault where Gerald's weapon was sealed, the villain inserted his grandfather's password: MARIA, and then inserted a Chaos Emerald into the control console. The vault opened, releasing the ultimate lifeform: Shadow the Hedgehog. In gratitude for being released, Shadow offered to grant his creator's grandson one wish. He then demonstrated his power to his new master by destroying a B-3x Hot Shot in ten seconds. Impressed, Eggman asked the black hedgehog about the wish he had mentioned, but the latter interrupted him, telling him to bring the Chaos Emeralds and that he would be waiting at the central control room onboard the Space Colony ARK before leaving.
On his way back to his Hidden Base, Eggman picked up and followed a signal, encountering Rouge the Bat and Knuckles, who were fighting over the Master Emerald. He attempted to steal it, but the echidna shattered it to pieces to prevent its theft. Not really needing the giant Emerald anyways, the doctor returned to his base, clearing out the G.U.N. forces, and caught up on the news. A newsflash announcing the theft of a Chaos Emerald from the national reserve bank caught his attention, and although the media and public had identified the culprit as Sonic, Eggman knew it was actually Shadow.
Using his base's space transporter, Eggman beamed himself to the ARK to meet with Shadow. There, the black hedgehog revealed the Eclipse Cannon, a weapon of mass destruction capable of destroying a planet or piercing a star. The cannon required the seven Chaos Emeralds to meet its immense power demands, and two had already been installed. Rouge - who had boarded the ARK by sneaking into the Hidden Base and accessing his transporter - revealed herself and offered her services. Although Eggman was suspicious of her motives, she provided another Emerald and was offering to help him obtain the others. The doctor agreed to let the bat join him and Shadow in their hunt.
Thanks to Rouge's intelligence reports, three more Chaos Emeralds were discovered on Prison Island, locked away in the cargo area in G.U.N.'s military research facility. Eggman organized a strategy that would allow him and his cohorts to obtain them. His part in the plan was to divert G.U.N.'s forces so that the bat could enter the vaults unnoticed and Shadow could plant high explosives in the armory to destroy the entire island. When the trio made their move, however, they were interrupted by the untimely arrival of Amy Rose, who had mistaken the black hedgehog for Sonic. The doctor moved in to try and deal with her but was stopped by Tails in his new Cyclone, whom he engaged while having his crew do their tasks. Running on a strict timetable, the villain let the heroes leave alive and made his escape, although not before making clear that the next time they encountered each other, his foes "won't be so lucky." Afterwards, he informed Shadow and Rouge that, thanks to this setback, they had no other option but to set the detonation timer of the explosives to fifteen minutes to make up for the wasted time, with Rouge remarking that five minutes was all she needed to recover the Chaos Emeralds stored in the vault. After the black hedgehog took longer than expected to evacuate, Eggman called in and demanded that he escape immediately before he got caught in the destruction of the island. Eggman also saved Sonic, who had been fighting Shadow to a stalemate when he called, unknowingly alerting the blue hedgehog that he needed to regroup and escape with Tails and Amy. Despite certain delays, including Shadow having to save Rouge via Chaos Control when she was pinned down at the vault, the mission was a success and the group returned to the ARK with the three Chaos Emeralds while Prison Island was consumed in fiery explosion.
Now having six Chaos Emeralds powering the Eclipse Cannon, Dr. Eggman announced to the world that the Eggman Empire would arise and dominate the planet. To show off his power, he fired the cannon at the moon, destroying half of it. Three hours later, the doctor delivered an ultimatum to the President of the United Federation: the government had twenty-four hours to surrender with no resistance or the villain would destroy the entire country, but these negotiations failed. Additionally, Sonic and Tails intervened and discovered that the scientist was at the ARK, forcing him to withdraw his threat. In addition, because the Eclipse Cannon was not fully charged with the seven Chaos Emeralds, Eggman was unable to make due with his threat due to it requiring a recharge time of several hours. To his fortune though, Rouge gave him a newspaper that revealed that Tails had been awarded the last Emerald after having saved Station Square, and as such had her and later Shadow track the fox down. Although neither of them were able to stop them, the doctor was undeterred, as he already had anticipated the possibility of their arrival and made arrangements for it.
Dr. Eggman was later waiting at his Hidden Base for Sonic and his friends to storm it. When that happened, the doctor unleashed his Egg Golem robot to destroy them and get their Chaos Emerald. A battle ensued and the hedgehog damaged a restraining mechanism on the giant's head, causing it to malfunction and attack the scientist, who was forced to destroy his own creation in defense, giving his nemeses the time they needed to hijack his space shuttle. In the aftermath, the villain gave a status report to Rouge about how they had escaped, and also ended up giving her the password for the computer files and the Eclipse Cannon upon her request. Eggman later went to the ARK after detecting two separate Chaos Emerald energy signatures, deducing that Sonic and his friends had a decoy as well as the real gem as a counterattack, also ordering Shadow to stand down as he intended to deal with them personally. When he returned to the colony, the doctor took Amy hostage and held her at gunpoint, demanding that she divulge Sonic's and Tails' current locations under the threat of killing her. After this, he then presumably either ambushed the fox or hijacked his communication lines and told him to tell the blue hedgehog that Amy was being held hostage and ordering him to meet him at the main laboratory if she was to survive. Upon his Sonic's arrival, the villain ordered him to place the Chaos Emerald in the center of the room. Believing it to be the fake Emerald (a belief that was also unwittingly confirmed by Tails when asking him how he deduced it), Eggman then sprung his trap and sealed Sonic inside a containment capsule, which was ejected into space where it exploded, seemingly killing him instantly, much to the doctor's ecstasy.
With nemesis out of the way, Dr. Eggman turned his attention to Tails and the two battled each other in their respective walkers. In the aftermath, the doctor was defeated, but managed to come out of the fight with the real Chaos Emerald while Tails and Amy were distracted with Sonic revealing himself to be alive. He made his way back to the Eclipse Cannon, but later reported to Shadow that someone (Sonic) was making his way to the cannon. As he laughed in triumph upon placing the final Emerald in, danger signs appeared on every monitor on the colony, followed by an image of Gerald Robotnik. A message left behind by his late grandfather stated that the world had sentenced him to death for death of Maria Robotnik during G.U.N.'s raid on the ARK, and that he would have his revenge by destroying the Earth. A program within the colony's main computer had been activated which would destabilize the ARK's orbit and send it crashing into the planet, wiping out all life.
Dr. Eggman convened with the heroes (and was visibly annoyed to see that Sonic was still alive) and showed them Gerald's diary. He then informed them that the Eclipse Cannon's core had overloaded with Chaos Emerald energy and the collision would obliterate the entire planet. The doctor was the one who suggested that they all work together to try and neutralize the Chaos Emeralds with the restored Master Emerald and stop the ARK's collision. With Eggman monitoring the ARK's layout and guiding the others down their respective paths (exempting his own personal path, being guided by Tails during this time), Knuckles and Sonic managed to neutralize the Chaos Emeralds while Shadow defeated the Biolizard. He later informed them about the Biolizard's survival and merging with the space colony in order to keep it on its collision course, prompting Sonic and Shadow turn into their super states to fight the behemoth. The hedgehogs destroyed the Finalhazard and returned the ARK back to its proper position in orbit, though Shadow fell to Earth and seemingly died from atmospheric re-entry. In the aftermath, Eggman had a conversation with Tails about how he looked up to his grandfather and disbelief that he tried to destroy the world and humanity before everyone left the colony to return home.
At some point after this incident, Eggman discovered that Shadow was still alive, albeit amnesiac and unconscious, when everyone had pronounced him dead. As such, he sent one of his robots to retrieve him. Afterwards, he would place him in a stasis capsule in one of his bases.
In Sonic Advance, Dr. Eggman hatched yet another dastardly plot to build his Dr. Eggman Empire, this time by turning Animals into robots. As a side quest, he also sought to find the seven Chaos Emeralds to gain unimaginable power. However, the doctor met resistance from Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy. He fought them several times with various mechs, until they eventually reached his base, X-Zone, located in space. After being defeated, he confronted Super Sonic on the moon using the Super Egg Robot, but this effort ended in failure too.
In Sonic Advance 2, Dr. Eggman devised yet another nasty scheme to conquer the world and build Eggmanland. This time, he was planning to establish a Dr. Eggman Empire by kidnapping Animals and cramming them into robots. As part of his operations, he also managed to abduct Tails and Knuckles, as well as a young girl called Cream the Rabbit and her mother, Vanilla; in the case of the echidna, he tricked him once again into thinking Sonic had become evil to lure him to his side.
When Sonic learned of Eggman's plans and set off to defeat him, the doctor would face him on repeated occasions with his mechs, but had little success in defeating him. After the hedgehog reunited with all of his friends, they faced the villain once again in his base: the Egg Utopia, and then in his satelite: XX. Upon his defeat and the destruction of the Egg Utopia, however, a vengeful Eggman went back to the surface of Earth and used a new mech to kidnap Vanilla once again, taking her to space. Fortunately, Sonic transformed into Super Sonic and defeated his nemesis after a mighty showdown, rescuing the adult rabbit in the aftermath.
In Sonic Advance 3, following the Emerl incident, as part of a scheme to build Eggmanland for once, Eggman used the leftover data of the destroyed robot to build a successor of his own: Gemerl. With at least one Chaos Emerald, the doctor performed a planetary scale Chaos Control that split the Earth into seven pockets of reality that he would annex into the Dr. Eggman Empire at a later point. However, Sonic and Tails immediately started an adventure to reunite with their friends, find the seven Chaos Emeralds and defeat the villain. Along the way, Eggman, accompanied by Gemerl, made several attempts to stop the heroes that ended in vain.
After his defeat at Chaos Angel, Eggman tried to steal the Master Emerald at its altar using the Hyper Eggrobo, but was once again stopped by Sonic and his friends. However, Gemerl betrayed his creator and used the seven Chaos Emeralds to turn into Ultimate Gemerl. After the treacherous robot dropped the Emeralds and went to space, the villain and Sonic, transformed into Super Sonic, teamed up to stop him. Eventually, the unlikely allies defeated Gemerl, leading to the robot and the hedgehog falling into the Earth. What happened to the doctor afterwards remains uncertain.
In Sonic Heroes, Dr. Eggman constructed his new ultimate weapon: a massive fleet of battleships called the Egg Fleet. He planned to use this fleet to conquer the world in three days, and even sent a letter to Team Sonic revealing his plan. However, before making any moves, he was locked away in his own flagship by Neo Metal Sonic, who impersonated him and took command of his fleet. Through unknown means, the doctor sent a walkie-talkie to Team Chaotix, whom he hired in order to break free, promising to pay them a lot of money.
Throughout the incident, Eggman would communicate to the Chaotix through his walkie-talkie, giving them various tasks until they reached the Egg Fleet. After the detectives defeated Neo Metal Sonic in the Egg Emperor, they broke the villain free, who tried (with no success) to convince them to let him be, promising to pay them after conquering the world. When the crew asked Eggman for answers Eggman was about to tell them only for Neo Metal Sonic to reveal himself and began transforming into Metal Madness. The doctor, reuniting with Teams Sonic, Rose, Dark, and Chaotix, assessed that they would need the power of the seven Chaos Emeralds to defeat him. Fortunately, the teams had already collected them and used them so that Team Sonic would super transform and defeat Neo Metal Sonic, now having turned into Metal Overlord. With the treacherous robot defeated, Eggman tried to sneak away from the Chaotix without paying but was seen and began running away from them.
In Sonic Battle, after revisiting his grandfather's journal, Dr. Eggman discovered the existence of a weapon of mass destruction known as the Gizoid, which he planned to use to power a Final Egg Blaster that could destroy the planet. By using this robot's raw data, he also created a mass-produced copy of it known as E-121 Phi. Around this time too, the doctor began experimenting using the energy of the shards of a Chaos Emerald he had crushed to power his inventions, using some old robots for his tests. Amongst these included E-102 Gamma, who was remodeled into a new machine nicknamed Chaos Gamma. This model and the Phis were all powered by the shards of the Emerald, and programmed to find the remaining gems. They also obeyed him thanks to a device he created called the "Emerald condenser".
Later on, Eggman attempted to use the Gizoid for his nasty plans. However, he was upset at seeing that the robot would not listen to even basic instructions, even after beating it up and giving it a whole Chaos Emerald. Having the Phis and Chaos Gamma anyway, the doctor discarded the Gizoid and left it to rot at the Emerald Beach. Afterwards, the villain hacked into the government's computer at Central City, where he found out that, in order for the Gizoid to obey him, he had to establish a "Link" with it. Soon, he was confronted by Rouge, whom he used to put one of his Phis to test. However, after seeing that this robot severely underperformed against the bat, Eggman ran off to search for the Gizoid.
Around three days later, Eggman sent three of his Phis after the Gizoid, who was now under Sonic's possession, with another Chaos Emerald, and now nicknamed "Emerl". After this failed, he confronted the robot and Knuckles at Emerald Town, deploying two more Phis. When this had no success either, the villain took advantage of the echidna's gullibility and lured the duo to his base, Gimme Shelter, in Night Babylon. There, he managed to trap Knuckles in his "ultra powerful" "spiky rodent trap". With one hero out, the doctor revealed his plans and left the scene, leaving Chaos Gamma to take care of Emerl. However, his robot failed his task, and the heroes escaped.
Much later, Emerl, who had now harnessed another Chaos Emerald, found himself under Amy and Cream's care. Taking advantage of the pink hedgehog leaving, Eggman made up a fake news about an Emerald being nearby to distract Sonic and Tails. With his worst enemies out of the way, the doctor could easily capture the Gizoid and Cream by paralyzing the former, ordering to send the two helpless heroes to Gimme Shelter. He later made a call to a Phi, unaware that Emerl was answering instead, and revealed how to escape the fortress. Afterwards, the villain reached out to Sonic, claiming to have the robot and Cream hostage. When the hedgehog asked for proof, the scientist made another call, but no one answered, leaving him in an awkward moment with his nemesis. When he returned to Gimme Shelter, however, he found out that Emerl and Cream had defeated his robots and claimed his Chaos Emerald for themselves. The Gizoid soon after made Eggman fall into his own trap, electrocuting him alive, and then made a videocall to Sonic, showing him the paralyzed villain, who got brutally humiliated in front of his adversary.
Later, contemplating the poor situation he was in, Eggman, knowing that Shadow had the seventh Chaos Emerald, sent Chaos Gamma to fight him. However, the black hedgehog defeated his robot with Emerl's help. When the Gizoid had now harnessed the final Emerald, the doctor, still refusing to give up, showed up at Central City, where he found Sonic and Emerl and boldly proclaimed that his world conquest would soon be achieved. Later, the villain launched a new Death Egg, which contained the Final Egg Blaster inside. The heroes trusted the heroic robot to take care of this, and sent him to the spaceship to fight Eggman. After a mighty fight, the doctor pleaded for mercy to get Emerl's guard down, luring him into a trap that would make him obey the villain for once. However, the Gizoid could not contain all of the power inside him and went haywire, threatening to use the Final Egg Blaster to destroy the world. Fortunately, Sonic managed to prevent this catastrophe at the last second, albeit at the cost of Emerl's life.
In Shadow the Hedgehog, Eggman was attempting to take over the world and build Eggmanland as usual when he suddenly found himself caught in the middle of the Black Arms' invasion of Earth. As such, he made the Eggman Empire join the war against them as an independent faction. As part of this, the doctor secretly built a few bases around the world, including the Cryptic Castle, where Cream found herself trapped; and the Circus Park, an amusement park powered by hundreds of stolen Rings.
At one point, Eggman's Cryptic Castle was visited by Shadow, who helped Amy rescue Cream and Cheese. Soon after, the doctor attacked both hedgehogs using his Egg Breaker, but was defeated. In the aftermath, he watched the war between the Black Arms and G.U.N. only progress with no signs of ending soon. Knowing that the conflict would leave him with no city to conquer, the villain decided to deploy his Egg Fleet to fight them.
After a series of unspecified events, Eggman arrived with Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and Rouge at the Black Comet to stop Shadow from handing over the seven Chaos Emeralds to Black Doom, the Black Arms' leader. The alien, however, took the Emeralds and used an enhanced Chaos Control to transport the Comet to the surface, intending to use humans as energy sources for the Black Arms. Before Eggman could act, he and the others were paralyzed by a nerve gas and Black Doom unleashed the Death Leeches on them. Fortunately, Shadow was immune to the gas and thus he left to stop the alien.
Under unknown circumstances, Eggman and the others escaped the Black Comet and found some shelter from where they communicated with Super Shadow on as he fought against Devil Doom. However, some of the Comet's gas eventually leaked into the shelter, paralyzing them once again, before spreading to the rest of the planet. Shortly after, the doctor confessed to the black hedgehog that he was not an android as he defeated the alien. Apparently no longer paralyzed, the villain and the others then watched as the transformed hedgehog sent the Black Comet back into space and destroyed it with the Eclipse Cannon. While the others were cheering on Shadow, Eggman tried to sneak his way out to steal the Chaos Emeralds, but was spotted by Knuckles, who gave chase to him while Sonic and his friends laughed at the two.
In Sonic Rush, Eggman met for the first time his descendant, Eggman Nega (who deceitfully presented himself as his alternate dimension counterpart), who wanted his help to create what both of them saw as a dream world: an inter-dimensional Eggman Land. To do so, however, they needed both the Chaos Emeralds and the seven Sol Emeralds from the Sol Dimension. As such, the present-day doctor was guided by his descendant to this alternate dimension, where he stole the Emeralds after defeating their guardian, Blaze the Cat.
Later on, after returning to Sonic's universe, Eggman encountered Blaze once again, who demanded him to hand over the Sol Emeralds to her. When the doctor refused to comply, the two had a confrontation where the cat came on top and claimed one Emerald. The two would meet again five more times, where the heroine would collect all but one of the gems. At the Dead Line, the villain, impressed by her persistence, confronted her once again. However, Sonic, who was also involved in the skirmish, entered the scene and had a misunderstanding with Blaze that culminated in a fight between the two heroes as Eggman and Nega watched. After this battle, the cat snatched the last Sol Emerald from Eggman while Nega escaped. Later, while Sonic and Blaze were putting the differences aside, the villains kidnapped Cream, with the present-day doctor sending a latter claiming that he was holding the rabbit hostage and telling the cat to meet him on her own. The two adversaries soon after had an epic showdown with Eggman piloting the Egg King, once again. However, he was defeated, and Blaze reunited with Cream.
Regrouping after their defeats, Eggman and Nega used their Egg Salamander to attack Blaze while she was alone and drain the Sol Emeralds of their power. Then, Sonic showed up with all seven Chaos Emeralds, which he knew how to keep stable. Regardless, the villains chose to depart to prepare themselves for their showdown with the hedgehog and make their inter-dimensional Eggman Land a reality. Soon after, they were confronted by Super Sonic and Burning Blaze in Exception. There, their machine was destroyed by the heroes. After that, Sonic's and Blaze's dimensions separated.
In Sonic Riders, Dr. Eggman found a legend about a boy who received an Angel Wing from the ancient Babylonians, with which he was about to rule the world. Eager to unearth this advanced technology, which was sealed within Babylon Garden, for himself, the doctor visited the Babylon Rogues, the descendants of the Babylonians, and informed them about the key to Babylon Garden and its requirement of the seven Chaos Emeralds, whilst enlisting the Rogues as contestants into his EX World Grand Prix competition.
After Jet brought Babylon Garden up from beneath the Earth using the seven Chaos Emeralds, as per Eggman's instructions, the doctor stole the control box and took off to the Garden to fulfill his own purpose. Sonic caught up with the villain, but the latter managed to hold Amy hostage. The blue hedgehog proceeded to blow his nemesis away, along with the pink hedgehog in the process, while reclaiming the control box.
When the Babylon Rogues and Team Heroes observed the treasure after having defeated the Babylon Guardian, Eggman showed up demanded them at gunpoint to hand over the treasure. Sonic and Jet exchanged grin at each other and complied, granting the doctor the glorious treasure was a Magic Carpet. While he was intrigued by the look and feel of the carpet, he then fainted out of shock, disappointed at the treasure's apparent lack of value.
In Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), Dr. Eggman learned of the "Flames of Disaster" that were contained inside of Princess Elise the Third of Soleanna. As such, he set up a new base, White Acropolis, where he began researching about the Solaris Project, an ambitious project named after Soleanna's sun god, Solaris. Thanks to his investigation, he discovered that this failed project had ended with the unleashing of the god in the form of two halves: Iblis, who was the Flames of Disaster, and Mephiles the Dark, who was trapped inside of the Scepter of Darkness. After discovering that Solaris' powers could manipulate the fabric of time itself, he made a new plan that involved kidnapping Princess Elise to harness the Flames of Disaster and find the seven Chaos Emeralds, which were the key to the flames' secret. This way, he could harness the god's powers to conquer the world in its past, present, and future. To advance his plans, he also built a new Egg Carrier and acquired the Scepter of Darkness through unknown means. Additionally, he managed to create a "Solaris prototype" that would allow him to control the flow of time at will.
During the Festival of the Sun's opening ceremony, Eggman showed up and attempted to kidnap Elise. However, Sonic came in and disposed of the doctor's robots, allowing him to take the princess to safety. Regardless, the villain managed to catch her soon after anyway. The next day, after realizing that Shadow and Rouge had infiltrated his base and took the Scepter of Darkness, Eggman and his army cornered them at Kingdom Valley and demanded them to hand over the Scepter. However, the antiheroes accidentally dropped it, deactivating all of the doctor's robots and liberating Mephiles. In panic, the villain was forced to retreat.
Later, at the Dusty Desert, Eggman saw Sonic and Tails attempting to rescue Elise. To delay their efforts, he deployed the Egg-Cerberus, but the hedgehog destroyed it and left with the princess. At Soleanna, however, the doctor took advantage of his nemesis being distracted by Silver the Hedgehog, a hedgehog from the future who was attempting to kill Sonic because he believed him to have unleashed Iblis, and took off with Elise once again. Later, he sent a letter to Knuckles telling Sonic to meet him at White Acropolis. There, Eggman trapped Sonic, Tails and Knuckles in a chamber and forced them to give him a Chaos Emerald to ensure Elise's safety. After they did so, he sent them to the future using the prototype of his Solaris-powered machine. Unbeknownst to him, the princess would later escape thanks to Amy's help.
Soon after, in Radical Train, Eggman was confronted by Shadow, who asked him who Mephiles was. He told him to bring the creature back to him, promising to tell him the truth if he did so. Finding Elise nearby, he caught her once again before Sonic could rescue her. Soon after though, the princess was saved by the hedgehog, but the villain, boarding the Egg Carrier, kidnapped her yet again in her castle. With her under his grasp, the doctor went to find a Chaos Emerald he had located. Unfortunately, a malfunction in the ship's systems caused it to crash, resulting in the deaths of Eggman and Elise. This thus led to Iblis being unleashed and destroying the world. Luckily however, Sonic time-traveled back in time to save the princess. To prevent his nemesis from doing so, the doctor piloted the Egg-Wyvern and confronted him while the Egg Carrier was losing attitude. Soon enough, Eggman was defeated, causing him to fall down in his chair while the hedgehog rescued Elise at the last moment as the ship crashed against a plateau.
A while later, Sonic was killed by Mephiles in front of Elise, causing her to accidentally unleash Iblis, allowing both halves to reunite into Solaris and begin destroying the world. In consequence, Eggman, who had survived the previous incident, found himself caught in a space-time rift alongside Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Shadow, Rouge, Omega, and a dead Sonic. As all hope was lost, Elise proposed finding the seven Chaos Emeralds to revive Sonic. As such, the team of heroes and villains got to work to obtain them. Afterwards, with the gems' power, the dead hedgehog was resuscitated and transformed into Super Sonic. He would then transfer part of his power to Shadow and Silver, turning them into Super Shadow and Super Silver respectively. Meanwhile, Eggman and the others would watch as the transformed hedgehogs fought against Solaris in a mighty showdown.
After Elise extinguished Solaris when he was just a tiny flame, the events of the entire incident were then undone, thus ensuring that none of Eggman's actions during this period ever happened.
In Sonic Rivals, Eggman's forces were taken over by Eggman Nega, who sought to dispose of his ancestor to undo all of his failures and thus make the future society recognize his brilliance. Afterwards, the villain from the future masqueraded as the doctor himself and cornered him. In desperation, Eggman sent a transmission to Shadow pleading for help before getting turned into a card by Nega's new camera. Fortunately, around six hours later, he was restored at the Death Yard thanks to Shadow and Silver's efforts. In gratitude, he helped escort the two hedgehogs to Nega's Meteor Base in order to foil his descendant's plans.
Having spent years making plans for world domination, Dr. Eggman would be opposed by his arch-nemesis, Sonic the Hedgehog, who would thwart all of his nasty schemes. Developing a deep hatred for the hedgehog in no time, the doctor would spend a long time researching his adversary's moves and abilities to incorporate them into his Egg Dragoon mech.
Years ago, when one of the five Arks of the Cosmos landed on the Crimson Crater, Eggman secured it and established MeteorTech, which appeared as a legitimate weapons/security manufacturing company and placed the newfound stone in its mother computer. However, the doctor was actually using his corporation for a plan to build his dream city, Eggmanland; when the remaining four Arks landed on Earth, the villain would use them to take control of all of the world's robots and conquer the planet. Also taking years to complete was a project that involved secretly building an amusement park in space, presumably to harness the Wisps' Hyper-go-on energy to power a mind control cannon with.
In Sonic Mania, some time after the Angel Island incident, Eggman detected a strong energy source coming from Angel Island, prompting him to send his five elite Eggrobos, the "Hard Boiled Heavies", to go and retrieve the source. Soon after, Eggman found himself in Green Hill, where he faced Sonic, Tails and Knuckles in his Death Egg Robot. He was soon defeated though, and eventually came across his Hard Boiled Heavies, who had been upgraded by the energy source. Seeing as the Heavies would no longer listen to him, Eggman took the energy source, the "Phantom Ruby", away from them and used its power to send Sonic, Tails and Knuckles, who were secretly eavesdropping on him nearby, away. The gem, however, would slowly make the doctor descend into madness.
Over the next period, Eggman seized Little Planet for himself. Afterward, he began building a robotic fortress known as the Titanic Monarch on the planet. Along the way, the doctor made several attempts to stop Sonic and his group, but was defeated each time. He would also occasionally use the ruby to displace the heroes when they began catching up to him.
It was not long until Sonic, Tails and Knuckles chased Eggman down to his base inside the Titanic Monarch. However, the mad doctor was prepared for them. He fought the trio using his Phantom Ruby-empowered Phantom Egg while sending the heroes to also fight the members of the Phantom Heavies. Unfortunately for Eggman, he was still defeated. Upon his defeat, however, the Phantom Ruby sent him and Sonic to an unknown location. There, the Phantom King (the upgraded leader of the Hard Boiled Heavies, the Heavy King), stole the ruby for himself. Eggman was not prepared to give up easily though, and used his Klepto Mobile to combat his traitorous minion. In response, Sonic used the Chaos Emeralds to transform into Super Sonic to fight them both. After the Phantom King was defeated, Eggman was delivered the final blow by Super Sonic, putting his mech and his plans to ruin.
In Sonic Mania Plus, some time after losing the Phantom Ruby, Eggman attacked Sonic and his group of friends in Green Hill with his Death Egg Robot. Though he was soon defeated, he came across his revived Hard Boiled Heavies, who had gotten their hands on the Phantom Ruby again, in the aftermath. Seeing that the Heavies again refused to listen to him, Eggman took the Phantom Ruby from them and used its power to send Sonic and his friends, who were secretly eavesdropping on him nearby, away.
From there, Eggman retried his previous plot by capturing Little Planet once again. After that, he rebuilt the Titanic Monarch on the miniature planet. Along the way, Eggman made several attempts to stop Sonic's group, but was defeated each time. He would also occasionally use the ruby to displace the heroes when they began catching up to him.
Eventually, Eggman got chased into the Titanic Monarch by Sonic and his gang. There, the mad scientist attempted to fight the group using his Phantom Ruby-empowered Phantom Egg, but was defeated again. Upon his defeat however, the Phantom Ruby activated, creating a rift that began sucking in the surroundings. Eggman attempted to escape the rift on a jet sled, but got knocked into it by Sonic and his friends when they escaped the rift in their Super States.
In Sonic Superstars, Dr. Eggman teams up with Fang the Hunter and a new villain named Trip the Sungazer to convert all of the Animals on the Northstar Islands into Badniks and gather the Chaos Emeralds in an attempt to take over the world. Having learned of this, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy had went on an adventure to save the archipelago and defeat the evil doctor and his thugs. After capturing gigantic versions of Rocky, Pecky, Picky, and Flicky, Eggman proceeded to hand Fang a bag full of money as his payment for his assistance. He then follows up with a further order for Fang to locate the Black Dragon, also handing him the crude drawing he had made earlier to aid in his search. However, his base's alarm suddenly went off before Fang and Trip (who entered an argument due to the latter stumbling) could actually conduct their search, prompting Eggman to look at the screen and learn, to his frustration, that Sonic had arrived. Trip ultimately defected from Eggman, partly because of her being fed up with her partner Fang's constant abuse, and aided in stopping him. While he doesn't directly appear in the last story, his crude drawing of the Black Dragon briefly appears in the closing scene.
In Sonic Rush Adventure, Eggman formed a partnership with Eggman Nega once more to create Eggmanland, this time by harnessing the power of the so-called "Power of the Stars", a force greater than the Chaos and Sol Emeralds combined that his descendant had discovered and told him about to get his cooperation. The key to unlocking this power, however, was the Jeweled Scepter, an ancient artifact located somewhere on Earth in the Sol Dimension. To find the scepter, the doctors put together Captain Whisker and his crew of robotic pirates, and send them out to search for it. In the meantime, the doctors had to find the place in which to use the Jeweled Scepter to unlock the Power of the Stars, which they discovered was beneath Southern Island thanks to Nega's research.
Although Whisker and his crew got defeated by Sonic, Tails, Blaze, and Marine, the two former of whom the villains had not expected would interfere with their plans; Eggman and Nega managed to steal the Jeweled Scepter themselves. They soon after appeared at Southern Island with their Egg Wizard and gloated about their master plan to the heroes before heading underground in their mech. Down below, in Deep Core, the villains used the machine to tap into the Power of the Stars with the Jeweled Scepter, giving it incredible power. However, Sonic and Blaze used the Chaos and Sol Emeralds to become Super Sonic and Burning Blaze respectively to combat the doctors. As the Egg Wizard ended up on the verge of defeat, a gleeful Eggman Nega decided to use the mech's "Planet-Buster Laser" to destroy Super Sonic, Burning Blaze and the world, causing Eggman to panic. Fortunately, the Egg Wizard got distracted by an energy blast from Marine, which gave the transformed heroes the opening needed for them to destroy the mech, thus foiling Eggman's ambitions once more.
In Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, a few months after the first EX World Grand Prix, Dr. Eggman lost control of his MeteorTech robots after all five Arks of the Cosmos had fallen down to the surface of Earth, one of which having been fortuitously harnessed by the SCR-HD from the villain's company. This caused a global robot rampage beyond the doctor's control that was lead by the SCR-HD to find the other four stones. Seeking to use this to his advantage nevertheless, Eggman began attempting to gather the Arks to control all of the planet's machines, which would thus allow him to take over the world and build Eggman Land.
A few days later, Eggman was cornered at his headquarters by Team Heroes and the Babylon Rogues, who suspected he was under the rampage. He claimed he was innocent, and helped the teams track down Amy and Storm, who were away with one of the Arks of the Cosmos. Afterwards, he revealed his true colors when he sneaked into the Rogues' blimp, stealing the two Arks they had collected and flying eastwards in his Egg Mobile. Arriving at the Crimson Tower, he was confronted by the thieves and Team Heroes once again, with his plans ruined after so many years to his dismal. Suddenly though, the SCR-HD snatched the five Arks of the Cosmos the antiheroes had collected, and took them to Babylon Garden, creating a black hole that began consuming the Crimson Tower. Panicked, Eggman proceeded to escape. Fortunately, however, Team Heroes and the Babylon Rogues stopped the black hole, preventing it from destroying the world.
In Sonic Free Riders, Dr. Eggman disguised himself as "King Doc of Toreggmania" and hosted another EX World Grand Prix, claiming that the winner would get large amounts of cash and treasure.
After what seemed to be the race finals of the World Grand Prix, "King Doc" announced there would be more final races for the contenders to participate and had constructed the "Ultimate Gear-jockey" (Metal Sonic disguised as E-10000B) to participate. After the race, the doctor decided to drop the disguise, and revealed that his robot had been copying everyone's racing data to make himself the fastest Extreme Gear racer. However, the data turned out be useless as it was revealed that Metal Sonic had stolen the data for himself and gave his creator false data, much to the villain's anger. After watching Sonic race against the treacherous robot, Eggman berated at the latter for ruining the World Grand Prix and proceeded to leave, revealing that he did not have any prize to award anyone with.
In Sonic Rivals 2, Eggman discovered that Eggman Nega, who was masquadering him once again, had got some files from Gerald Robotnik which told of the Ifrit, a creature from another dimension. Knowing that Nega was attempting to get the seven Chaos Emeralds to unleash this beast into Sonic's universe to destroy the world, the doctor sent Metal Sonic to reach out to Shadow and ask for his help.
Throughout the adventure, Eggman would communicate to Shadow through Metal Sonic, telling him what to do and revealing what Eggman Nega was up to. By the time the hedgehog and the robot had got to the Neon Palace, however, Nega had taken over the doctor's Badniks and had them destroy his base, putting him in trouble. Fortunately, Shadow destroyed the rogue robots, allowing the villain to regain control of his fortress. When the duo was approaching the Mystic Haunt, Eggman, seeing that the signal with Metal Sonic would break up, went to the mansion himself to help Shadow. Unfortunately, the doctor's descendant had managed to open up the portal to the Ifrit's universe despite only having six of the Chaos Emeralds, but the villain told the black hedgehog that there was a switch in that dimension that would close the portal and prevent the beast from causing havok. Shadow and Metal Sonic later managed to do so and returned to Sonic's universe using Chaos Control while leaving Nega trapped in the Ifrit's dimension.
In Sonic Unleashed, Eggman learned of the Gaia Manuscripts, which told of a mystical creature named Dark Gaia, which appeared in a time of awakening every few millenia that would shatter the Earth. Wanting to awake this monster and harness his power to build Eggmanland, the doctor and his robots raided Spagonia's university, where he kidnapped Professor Pickle, another scientific genius who was the only one who could read the Manuscripts, and took away all of his lab data and intel. He then left Pickle in a prison cell in Mazuri, feeding him with sandwiches the professor deemed horrible.
Later, Eggman prepared a cosmic Egg Fleet and a giant Chaos Energy Cannon in orbit with Earth. Soon enough, his fleet was attacked by Sonic. After a fight, the hedgehog revealed that he had the seven Chaos Emeralds, which he used to transform into Super Sonic and give chase to the doctor, who escaped in his Egg Mobile to the cannon. There, when he was cornered by his nemesis, the villain faked giving up so that Sonic would get his guard down. At the perfect moment, Eggman revealed that he had lured the hedgehog into a trap that stripped him off the Chaos Emeralds, which he used to power the Chaos Energy Cannon and shatter the Earth, prematurely waking up Dark Gaia along with his light counterpart, Light Gaia. In the process, Sonic harnessed the power of the evil creature and turned into Sonic the Werehog. Victorious, the doctor disposed of his nemesis and the Emeralds by letting them fall down to the shattered planet, fully convinced that the hedgehog had died.
A few days later, Eggman returned to Mazuri, where he tried to convince its inhabitants to show him the location of its Gaia Temple, which he allegedly wanted to find to restore the powerless Chaos Emeralds. Much to his frustration, Sonic revealed himself with Light Gaia, who was carrying the nickname "Chip", and defeated the doctor, who piloted the Egg Beetle. Later, the villain began building a Dark Gaia-powered Eggmanland. However, he was upset to find out that, after his nemesis had already restored two continents and had run off with Professor Pickle, the base was only 27% complete, mainly because of Dark Gaia having been released prematurely and his fragments having spread around the world. After being scolded by his assistant, SA-55, Eggman made a plan to attract the fragments to Eggmanland to speed up its construction, which had success.
After Sonic and Chip had restored all but one of the continents, Eggman had completed Eggmanland. When the hedgehog restored the continent where the fortress was standing as well, the doctor fought him in an epic showdown while piloting the Egg Dragoon, but was defeated. Soon after, Dark Gaia formed in front of them, and the villain ordered him to attack his nemesis. However, the creature sent Eggman flying before fighting Sonic. Later, when the hero defeated Perfect Dark Gaia, the doctor himself was revealed to have survived the attack and chased SA-55 into the sunrise in a childish fury after the later mocked him over his loss.
In Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I, Eggman was left humiliated and vengeful at his defeat at the hands of Sonic for destroying the Death Egg. This failure, which only contributed to furthering the doctor's rage, made him determined to take down his nemesis once and for all. For this new plan, the villain set up a new factory, Mad Gear, on an unnamed island and began revisiting his deadliest creations at the moment to use against the hedgehog.
When Sonic arrived on the island, he would manage to put back Eggman's ambitions. At several points, the doctor used old mechs to dispose of the hedgehog with no success, while his nemesis would also manage to secure the seven Chaos Emeralds. Eventually, the villain retreated to his E.G.G. Station. Not content with this, Sonic jumped onto a rising rocket and pursued the doctor. Onboard the spaceship, Eggman attacked his nemesis with all of the past battle machines, culminating with an epic showdown where the doctor piloted a rebuilt Death Egg Robot. Despite the mech's improvements, and the scientist's best efforts, the hedgehog ultimately defeated him, and escaped the base as it began exploding.
In Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode Metal, several months after the previous crisis, the aforementioned planet returned to Earth once again. Taking this opportunity to finally complete his ultimate plan, Eggman sent a monitor of himself to Stardust Speedway, where a deactivated Metal Sonic was laying around, to resurrect the robot and order him to go to Mad Gear. Here, the doctor fixed his creation to dispose of Sonic for good.
In Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II, after repairing Metal Sonic, Eggman went to the Sylvania Castle, where Sonic and Tails were found, to defeat the heroes in his Egg Serpentleaf. When this failed, he encountered the duo again in the Oil Desert while piloting the Egg Scrap Mech, but had no success in getting rid of them either. As the incident went on, the heroes would also notice that the doctor was building a second Death Egg over Little Planet. Eventually, the villain escaped to his Sky Fortress while the hedgehog and the fox gave chase. Afterwards, he and Metal Sonic fleed to the completed Death Egg mk.II, where the two villains would have several battles against Sonic and Tails. However, Eggman was ultimately defeated while his new spaceship was left harmlessly floating in space, fully deactivated.
In the Wii version of Sonic Colors, after years in the making, Dr. Eggman had almost completed Egg Planet Park, which he was using to kidnap an alien race known as Wisps and harness their Hyper-go-ons to fuel a massive Mind Control Ray to subjugate the world with. In order to finish his park, Eggman sent massive forces of robots to secure several planets that included Planet Wisp to chain them to the park, while also kidnapping the local Wisps along the way. He also remodeled those planets by building massive attractions on them. However, in advertisements promoting Egg Planet Park, he stated that it was build after developing a "sense of remorse" for his past evil actions.
At one point, Eggman built a base on the Sweet Mountain containing a massive energy draining machine to harness the kidnapped Wisps' Hyper-go-on power. He tasked his assistant robots, Orbot and Cubot, with putting those Wisps into the energy draining machine, though he would later also put Metal Sonic in the task.
On the day before Egg Planet Park's opening, Eggman was counting his kidnapped Wisps alongside Orbot and Cubot. However, Sonic, who had infiltrated the park with Tails, soon showed up. The doctor thus released his Rotatatron to fight the hedgehog while he and his minions escaped. Later, the villain used a supply of the Wisps' Hyper-go-on to fuel a Mind Control Ray to take control of Tails' mind. However, when the Mind Control Ray ran out of Hyper-go-on, leaving the fox to be released from his control, Eggman was forced to retreat.
After Sonic freed all of the planets that were chained to Egg Planet Park, Eggman attempted to fire the Mind Control Ray at the Earth. However, this attempt backfired due to one of the arms of the Rotatatron having damaged the cannon, creating a void in its place that began destroying Eggman's theme park. In a last attempt to defeat Sonic though, Eggman used the Nega-Wisp Armor to attack his nemesis, who pushed Tails to an elevator to send him safely to the planet. Engaging Sonic in battle, Eggman ended up being defeated, causing him to be sucked into the black hole, which was then neutralized by the Wisps. Later, Eggman, Orbot and Cubot were left stranded in space.
In the console/PC version of Sonic Generations, after the Wisp incident, Eggman, Orbot and Cubot were still stranded in space following the events of said incident. However, they stumbled upon a mysterious creature, the Time Eater. Discovering that the monster was able to erase time and space, the doctor decided to harness his power to undo his previous defeats and conquer the world. He thus left the scene with the newly-discovered creature, leaving Orbot and Cubot behind thus showing his lack of care towards them.
Later on, Eggman converted the Time Eater into a cyborg-like machine that let him control the creature, though he needed help from someone as smart as himself to perfect the process. Even so, the doctor began using him to interfere with history, trapping various locations from the past in a white void named White Space. Later, he travelled to the past and kidnapped the Sonic and Tails from that time, leaving the two stranded in White Space. Shortly afterward, while Modern Sonic was celebrating his birthday party, the villain used the monster to send the hedgehog to White Space, while flinging his friends through time to serve as bait for his traps.
Sometime after, after the Angel Island incident Upon being defeated like before, the doctor was abducted by Modern Eggman with the intention of helping him perfect the Time Eater. With Classic Eggman more than willing to help, the two doctors teamed up to defeat their respective Sonics and complete the Time Eater.
Eggman later reappeared in a restored Eggmanland, where he fought against Sonic in the Egg Dragoon. However, he was defeated and was later abducted by the Time Eater. After this, the two Eggmen revealed themselves to the Sonics and Tailses. As they explained everything to the heroes, the doctors unveiled their endgame: to destroy the hedgehogs with the Time Eater and erase them from time entirely. The heroes tried engaging the Time Eater, but the doctors ambushed them by launching the Time Eater's arm through a Time Hole, squashing the duo. As the villains got ready to finish them off, however, Modern Sonic's friends arrived and cheered him and Classic Sonic on, causing the Chaos Emeralds to emerge from them and transform them into Super Sonics. The heroes then faced the Eggmen and the Time Eater in another dimension and destroyed him, undoing the villains' actions. After this battle, Eggman found himself stranded in White Space with his past self, attempting to find an exit and go back home. After giving up and arguing about whether or not they would ever win, Classic Eggman considered going back to get his "teaching degree", to which Modern Eggman agreed as he enjoyed telling people what to do, much to his past self's exasperation.
In the Wii U version and PC version of Sonic Lost World, Eggman set foot on the floating continent of the Lost Hex, where he met a group of six menacing Zeti known as the Deadly Six. Deciding to have them serve him, he enslaved them using a Cacophonic Conch to control their abilities. Additionally, he created the Extractor at Lava Mountain, which he planned to use to extract some of the life of Earth to power his machines, but it proved to be very unstable despite its effectiveness. The doctor also built a base somewhere on the continent to turn the Animals he would kidnap into Badniks.
Much later, Eggman, accompanied by Orbot and Cubot, was carrying an Animal-filled Capsule in the Egg Mobile while being pursued Sonic and Tails on their Tornado. After distracting the duo by dropping the Capsule, the doctor shot down their plane with a ray gun. When it later turned out that his nemeses had survived and were attempting to thwart his scheme, the doctor and the Deadly Six encountered the hedgehog at Windy Hill, where he sent Zazz to defeat him. When this failed, the villain managed to convince Zomom to face Sonic at the Desert Ruins by giving him a sandwich. After this attempt ended in failure as well, Eggman proceeded to scold the Zeti for their incompetence before punishing them with a blow from the Cacophonic Conch. However, the hedgehog entered the scene, disposing of the conch and allowing the Deadly Six to rebel against the scientist by taking over his Badnik army. This forced the doctor, Orbot and Cubot to escape the scene alongside Sonic and Tails.
Finding themselves safe at the Tropical Coast, Eggman and his minions reluctantly formed a partnership with Sonic and Tails to defeat the Deadly Six and stop them from using the Extractor to make themselves unstoppable. While the hedgehog was willing to cooperate, the fox would get into arguments with the two, who did not trust the doctor and thought that Sonic was ditching him in the villain's favor. Eventually, at the Frozen Factory, the group would be threatened by the Zeti through a screen, who revealed their intentions of using the Extractor, which did not sit well with the scientist. Later, Eggman proposed destroying the Lost Hex, finding strong opposition from Sonic, before unexpectedly saving Tails from getting killed by a rogue Orbot. At the Silent Forest, the doctor witnessed the fox being kidnapped by the Deadly Six before declaring that he had fought for the greater good. Afterwards, at the Sky Road, whilst fixing Orbot, the villain overheard Orbot attempting to become Sonic's sidekick, which earned the robot's disapproval of the two nemeses (Sonic being offended on Tails’s behalf while Eggman being annoyed by his minion’s open disrespect of him).
When Eggman and his group arrived at Lava Mountain, they were attacked by Zomom and Zazz, destroying the bridge the crew was walking on and seemingly forcing the villain to sacrifice his life to save his arch-nemesis. However, after Sonic defeated the Deadly Six and reunited with Tails, the doctor revealed that he had faked his death and had been preparing the Eggrobo, a mech powered by the energy the Extractor had absorbed, with the intention of disposing of the heroes and conquering what was left of the damaged world. Even with his creation's enormous powers though, the doctor was defeated by the hedgehog while the fox tampered with the machine to return the planet's life. The doctor declared that he would find another Cacophonic Conch and enslave the Deadly Six once again, before trying to flee using a jetpack. However, it turned out that Sonic had removed one of its exhaust pipes, resulting in the villain plummeting back to Earth. In the aftermath, Eggman actually survived his fall, but got stuck in a patch of soft dirt; Orbot and Cubot - now fused into one body - managed to rescue him, but not before a Pocky ate half of his mustache. The minions mentioned this by mistake and soon fleed from a very upset Eggman.
In Sonic Forces, months before making any moves, Dr. Eggman found the Phantom Ruby outside his lair while having a mental block on his next scheme for the Eggman Empire to become a reality and finsh off Sonic for good. Upon picking it up, the Ruby gave him a vision of Eggmanland, only for it to evaporate when he dropped the gem. Realizing that the visions could be useful, the doctor proceeded to research the stone. Shortly after formally giving the Ruby its name, however, he had to deal with the Jackal Squad invading his turf. Since the villain had spent his time researching the Ruby rather than maintaining his defensive measures, his outrage caused the Phantom Ruby to create several Phantom Copies of Egg Pawns that held off the Jackal Squad. Despite this, he was almost killed by Infinite, their leader. Fortunately, the jackal's sword hit the Ruby and caused a vision of a desolate wasteland to appear, stunning him long enough for Eggman to knock him away. Impressed by the mercenary's abilities and his vision, the doctor offered to make him the leader of his army, which he accepted. The villain later tested out the Phantom Ruby's powers on Angel Island, leaving Knuckles and Silver to the gem's illusions of Pachacamac's village and an aggressive Chaos. After the heroes reverted the Phantom Ruby's effects, Eggman watched them take off and was delighted that the test was a success.
Because of how important the Phantom Ruby was to his plans, Eggman had the lab researching it at Mystic Jungle guarded by the Jackal Squad and a large contingent of Badniks. There, Eggman produced artificial duplicates of the Phantom Ruby called "Phantom Ruby prototypes". However, most of them had a defect that left them unusable to anyone else except one with the fortitude to trigger them, leaving the prototype embedded with that person's DNA.
Eventually, Shadow the Hedgehog attacked Eggman's lab in Mystic Jungle. With the Jackal Squad wiped out early on by Shadow, Eggman dispatched Infinite. The captain was no match for Shadow, which, thanks to Shadow's blunt criticism, prompted him to be fused with Eggman's finalized Phantom Ruby prototype. Eggman had his own personal motives for approving of Infinite undergoing the procedure: in particular, he wanted to create an "invincible weapon of destruction" to use on Sonic when the time came and let him expand the Eggman Empire across the globe. The fusion gave Infinite the Phantom Ruby's powers, including its ability to create Phantom Copies, which Eggman had Infinite use to supply him with Phantom Copy soldiers for his army.
Shortly after completing his experiments on Infinite, Eggman's base in Green Hill was infiltrated by E-123 Omega. To deal with the traitorous robot, Eggman dispatched Infinite, who easily handled Omega, as a test of his new abilities.
Eventually, Dr. Eggman invaded the City with his army, only for Sonic to arrive, just as he intended, to rescue Tails and several civilians when Eggman had them at gunpoint with his Egg Pawns. Having anticipated Sonic coming to the rescue, Eggman unveiled Infinite and the Phantom Copies of Zavok, Shadow, Chaos, and Metal Sonic accompanying him. Together, these foes defeated Sonic. Instead of finishing Sonic off when he had the chance however (as he wanted to give Sonic a chance to escape), Eggman instead imprisoned Sonic on his newly rebuilt Death Egg space station so he could have him see his empire upon its completion before banishing him into space. Without Sonic opposing him, Eggman conquered over 99% of the world over the next six months with the aid of Infinite and his Phantom Copies. It was during this war that the Resistance was formed to fight back against Eggman.
At some point during his conquest, Eggman invaded the City with robots deployed from his battleship. However, the battleship's launch bay got hit with a missile, preventing any more robots from functioning. Due to this, Eggman retreated, but swore revenge.
Eventually, Eggman sought to dispose of his remaining Phantom Ruby prototypes so they could not be used against him, sending Infinite to his lab in the Mystic Jungle to retrieve them. Eggman later appeared in Green Hill to talk with Infinite while the latter destroyed his prototypes. He then grew angry at Infinite for not killing Sonic, who had broken out of the Death Egg, at Mystic Jungle, but nonetheless reviewed with him the final stages of his plan to wipe out the Resistance and perfect the Eggman Empire upon the ashes of the old world. Shortly after Infinite took his leave, however, Eggman was attacked by Classic Sonic, who had arrived in the present due to the Phantom Ruby. Eggman initially attempted to disengage from fighting Classic Sonic due to viewing him as not worth his time, but ultimately fought him with his various mechs, before being beaten. Already confident in his victory against the Resistance, he took the loss in stride, and even proceeded to gloat to Tails (who was accompanying Classic Sonic) and Classic Sonic that his plan to wipe them out would be accomplished in three days' time before taking his leave.
While his army fought the Resistance for him, Eggman began shifting his forces to the Eggman Empire Fortress in preparation for his plan to wipe out the Resistance. This left his HQ in Metropolis undermanned, prompting the Resistance to launch a full, frontal assault on the city. Eggman, while surprised by the resistance's boldness, took care of them by sending Infinite to deal with them personally, who forced the Resistance to retreat. Despite their losses, the Resistance managed to uncover the Phantom Rubies' weakness, reclaim portions of the world, and blow up the Death Egg, which also served as a energy source for the Phantom Rubies.
Infuriated by the Resistance and their progress, Eggman and Infinite retreated to Metropolis until their final plan could be executed. There, Eggman was found by Sonic and Tails, who sought to capture him. However, the villain revealed one of his trump cards by instructing Infinite to form a portal into Null Space, which sucked in both Sonic and the Avatar after the former attempted to save Sonic. Tails voiced his shock at the Phantom Ruby's continued power despite the Death Egg's destruction. In response, Eggman revealed that he had a backup power-source hidden beneath the Eggman Empire Fortress. While losing his city to the Resistance however, Eggman saw, much to his shock, that Sonic and the Avatar had escaped from Null Space. Infuriated, he retreated to his fortress to enact his final plan.
When the Resistance came to the fortress to end the war, the organization fought the hundreds of Phantom Copies of Chaos, Shadow, Metal Sonic, and Zavok that were under Infinite's control. Despite Omega showing up aid to the Resistance, Infinite enacted Eggman's endgame: using his Phantom Ruby prototype, Infinite created a second sun, which began a collision course with the planet. Eggman then revealed his intentions to use this sun to completely destroy the Resistance. However, Eggman's doomsday plan was foiled when the Avatar used a Phantom Ruby prototype Infinite had missed to neutralize the second sun. Expressing disbelief that his plans were once again ruined, Eggman had his fleet, army, and Infinite launch a defensive attack. Meanwhile, Sonic and the Avatar soundly defeated Infinite. Eggman then arrived and expressed his admiration for Sonic's ability to always impress him. Revealing that he had one final play in hand however, Eggman retreated while the Resistance destroyed his backup reactor for his Phantom Rubies.
While Sonic believed that they had won, Eggman reappeared in a Death Egg Robot with the original Phantom Ruby incorporated into it. Proclaiming himself as Infinite's successor, Eggman used the Ruby to conjure up thousands of Phantom Copies to fight the resistance. When Classic Sonic and the Avatar managed to destroy the outer shell of the robot, Eggman ejected the core and created a dimension to have his final battle with them and Sonic. In the end, Eggman was defeated when the trio dealt his mech a final blow that destroyed the Phantom Ruby. As the Death Egg Robot exploded, the dimension collapsed and all the Phantom Copies disappeared, allowing the Resistance to claim final victory in the War to Take Back the Planet. Eggman disappears without a trace after the final fight against him, leaving his fate ambiguous.
In Team Sonic Racing, Dr. Eggman observed the Grand Prix organized by Dodon Pa, who had convinced Team Sonic, Team Rose and Team Vector to participate in it. Eventually though, Eggman decided to step in and a throw a wrench into the heroes' plans. Having invented the Egg Booster for himself and appointed several Eggpawns as his teammates for Team Eggman, Eggman was ready to enter the Grand Prix himself. In the meantime, he had Orbot and Cubot remain on standby onboard his Final Fortress where they maintained his airship and vegetable garden.
Arriving at the Grand Prix alongside Team Dark, Team Eggman was introduced to the other racers by Dodon Pa. Tails immediately accused Eggman of being behind the Grand Prix, but Eggman insisted that he was only here to race. As Eggman bragged that his team was unstoppable, Sonic countered with a taunt.
During a race between Team Sonic and Team Dark, Dr. Eggman intruded on the two teams' race to compete alone under the pretense that he was there to race as a special guest. Although Dodon Pa knew it was a lie, he nonetheless allowed Eggman to compete, much to Eggman's surprise. As Sonic and Shadow began to gang up on him, Eggman asked Dodon Pa for help, who advised him to make use of the Wisp power-ups on the race tracks. Taking Dodon Pa's advice, Eggman used the Wisps to take the lead. However, Sonic and Shadow soon after took the lead again. Although Eggman saw this as little more than a temporary setback, he soon found himself surrounded by the other racers in the Grand Prix, who took him out with a combined Wisp assault. Although Eggman lost, his performance had taken up so much of Dodon Pa's attention that the Tanuki did not see whether Sonic or Shadow won the race, much to Eggman's joy. Still, Eggman moped that would have won if he had a team, to which Dondo Pa replied that he looked forward to his continued participation with a team since Eggman's passion against overwhelming odds was inspiring.
Soon after, Eggman met up with Dodon Pa to discuss science with him. During their conversation, the Ultimate Energy Engine was brought up. This engine, which Donpa Motors was currently developing, was going to be the fastest and most powerful engine in the universe. After hearing about it, Eggman plotted to steal the Ultimate Energy Engine. Some time after, Eggman lost a race to Sonic, who asked him how many times he had been defeated by now. While Eggman replied that he did not keep scores, Orbot tried to provide the exact number. However, an annoyed Eggman had Orbot zip it, and decided to up his game. Soon after, Eggman sent hundreds of Eggpawns after the racers on the race tracks. While the heroes managed to clear out the Eggpanws, Eggman promised that this was not the end, as he could built Eggpawns faster than they could destroy them. As the Grand Prix progressed though, Eggman and his team were not doing too well. Frustrated at his constant loses, Eggman concluded that something was wrong with his car, prompting Orbot to mock him with a sarcastic remark, much to Eggman’s ire. After getting Orbot to shut up via an implied threat, Eggman decided to introduce an even better car: the Formula M. In addition, Eggman had Metal Sonic join his team so he could drive the Formula M.
Seeking to have someone steal the Ultimate Energy Engine, Eggman hired Zavok for the task, which prompted Cubot to mockingly say over the microphone that he hopes Zavok likes losing, much to Eggman’s annoyance. Before one of the races, Eggman secretly contacted Zavok, and gave him instructions to follow. Afterward, Eggman decided to have his team keep racing for now. Later, Eggman was getting more and more excited about the obtaining the Ultimate Energy Engine. While Eggman thought his plan infallible however, Orbot had listed several ways for it to fail, prompting Eggman to chide Orbot. Soon after though, Zavok was discovered by Sonic and the other racers. When Sonic asked Eggman if he was with him, Eggman faked ignorance. Regardless, he still had Zavok join his racing team, and provided him with the Road Dragoon. After the race, Eggman chided Zavok for letting himself be discovered. To make matters worse, Zavok had failed to located the Ultimate Energy Engine, making Eggman even more angry. Regardless, Eggman hoped that Zavok could prove himself on the race track. Not long after, Eggman heard Dodon Pa talk publicly about how he was developing the Ultimate Energy Engine. Later, before another race, Eggman was approached by Silver, who began interrogating him about what he and Dodon Pa talked about earlier. Seeing through Eggman, Silver correctly deduced Eggman's mission, his plan with Zavok, and his intention to use the engine for his own gain. Meanwhile, Eggman thought about using the engine to destroy Sonic. Having failed to cover up his intentions, Eggman instructed Metal Sonic and Zavok to win the next race at all costs. However, after a series of more defeats, Eggman would insult Zavok and criticize his skills. Eventually though, Eggman offered Zavok a task he was more suited for: kidnapping Dodon Pa.
After Dodon Pa was kidnapped and brought onboard the Final Fortress, Eggman demanded to Dodon Pa that he handed the Ultimate Energy Engine over to him. However, Dodon Pa revealed that it was unfinished, making it useless. Furthermore, the racers had stopped racing, and without them producing Ultimate Team Energy, the engine could never be finished. Zavok then pointed out to Eggman that this was Eggman's own fault: by kidnapping Dodon Pa, he had brought the Grand Prix to a halt and stopped the racers from producing the necessary energy. Rather than taking responsibility for his actions, Eggman tried to figure out a way to fix this mess. As Sonic and the other racers arrived to save Dodon Pa, Eggman decided to trick the heroes into racing his henchmen and produce the energy they needed to finish the engine. By lying that he would set Dodon Pa free if they beat him in a series of races, he got the heroes to race his Eggpawns, then Zavok, and then Metal Sonic. In the final face, Eggman had the heroes race him as well (although he felt he made a fool out of himself on the track). In the end though, Dodon Pa finished the Ultimate Energy Engine, which Eggman promptly stole and incorporated into his Death Egg, which Eggman planned to crush Sonic with. Eggman subsequently pitted his Death Egg against all the racers, but Sonic still beat it. Eggman then planned to use the Death Egg to crush Sonic and his car. Unfortunately, the Death Egg went crazy and drove into the Final Fortress's energy core, causing the airship to start crashing. This prompted Eggman to escape the Final Fortress with his lackeys.
In Sonic Frontiers, Dr. Eggman learned of the Starfall Islands and the long-lost technology of a society known as the Ancients. As such, he set up a base on Kronos Island where he began developing his operations. He also created his most advanced artificial intelligence, which he code-named "Sage", to help him in his nasty plan.
At a later point, Eggman deployed a robot copy of himself piloting a giant mech to fight Amy Rose on a nearby island. However, the robot was destroyed by the pink hedgehog with help of Sonic and Tails. Annoyed after receiving the news, the doctor decided to speed up his plans given the fact that his nemeses were on their way to stop him. Sage warned him that an accelerated timetable would not be a good idea, but the villain stated that its code was impeccable and that he had designed it to protect him. Upon his request, Sage would download itself into a drive that the scientist took.
Flying off in the Egg Mobile to the outskirts of his base, Eggman approached one of the Ancients' Portals to Cyber Space. He inserted his drive into the Portal's dome, determined to learn about the secrets of this society. As he had anticipated, Ancient Soldiers appeared and surrounded him. However, Sage would initiate a protective initiative due to the scientist being attacked. This led to Eggman being sent to Cyber Space.
Some time after, Eggman would find himself stranded in the middle of Cyber Space, where he recognized the advanced technology that far surpassed his own. With no apparent way to escape this dimension, as "some force" was keeping him from doing so, the doctor began recording several audio files in at least twenty-four of his Egg Memos. Upon learning that Sonic had arrived on the Starfall Islands, the villain ordered Sage to watch over the hedgehog, whilst also tasking it with finding a way out of Cyber Space. However, Sage made little progress in the latter; despite having ran over 1,700,050 simulations, it was unable to find a safe way for Eggman to go back home.
Over time, Eggman made more recordings of his experience in Cyber Space through his Egg Memos; some moments he recorded were his discoveries of locations from all around Sonic's universe being recreated in this dimension, his ponders about how he could use the Ancients' technology to his advantage, the age of the Ancients themselves, the connections between that civilization and the Chaos Emeralds, and his views regarding Sonic and his friends, as well as his cousin Maria Robotnik. Sage would also play a critical role in the doctor's survival in Cyber Space, as it would inform him of nearby hostile entities and the events in the real world, and guide his past firewalls. Over time, the villain would grow a deep bond with his AI, who would exchange jokes with him and make the scientist proud of "her", referring to her as a "very personable, adorable program". As such, Eggman promised that he would grant her access to the EggNet and replace Orbot and Cubot once they returned home. After Sage told Eggman of Sonic's battle with one of the Guardians, Eggman was impressed by his victory. Sage questions Eggman praising his arch-enemy. Eggman explains that even though he despises Sonic, he respects him for his relentlessness and skill and dominance over his enemies. Eventually, Sage found a possible way for the doctor to leave Cyber Space: to team up with Sonic, as he has done so before in the past. Eggman, however, refused to do so, telling her that he only teamed up with him out of desperation and commanded her to find another way.
Much later, after Sonic shut off all five towers on Rhea Island, Eggman and Sage had escaped Cyber Space. Upon returning to the real world, they found out, much to the former's delight specially, that the hedgehog had been corrupted by the Cyber Energy he had absorbed, turning him into a lifeless statue, cruelly laughing at his foe's plight. Soon after, however, Sage recommended the doctor that he returned to Cyber Space so he could live, as a mighty creature called The End was being awakened after millennia and was preparing to consume all. Determined to drive back the corruption within Sonic, the hedgehog's friends sacrificed themselves to save him. Afterwards, much to Eggman's displeasure, Sonic had been cleansed of his Cyber Energy. After being convinced by Sage, the villain began a cooperation with his nemesis again to stop The End, but officially inducted him into the Eggman Empire. He then had his AI help the hedgehog collect the seven Chaos Emeralds.
Eventually finding one of the Chaos Emeralds on his own, Eggman gave it to Sonic, who had acquired the other six, so he could turn into Super Sonic and face Supreme. When the Titan was defeated, the doctor somberly ordered Sage to "fulfill her purpose". Complying, she merged with Supreme and helped Super Sonic fight their final foe: The End. Following an epic showdown, the unlikely duo ultimately defeated their enemy for good; however, Sage was ultimately destroyed when she merged with the creature to destroy it. Saddened by the loss of his "daughter", Eggman was left behind while Sonic and his friends went back home. Eventually though, the doctor was able to restore at least part of his AI.
In The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, Dr. Eggman devised yet another disgraceful scheme that involved modifying several cargo trains into passenger train-based, autonomous, Animal-powered Badniks to imprison civilians and destroy their home towns as part of a plan to build Eggmanland and another Death Egg. Amongst said trains was the Mirage Express, in which Sonic and his friends held Amy Rose's birthday party. The scientist thus had the Badnik train head towards his base so he could take his nemeses out for good and carry out his plots unopposed.
Much later, Eggman would be informed of the heroes causing damage to the Mirage Express, and made a video call that was answered by Sonic himself and an unnamed quokka. The doctor explained to the two his plans of destroying them and their friends and hung up. A while later, he ordered the train to accelerate so it could get to his fortress faster. However, when the group cooperated to stop the Mirage Express, Eggman's plans ultimately ended in failure. After waiting for a while at his base with the discouraged Sage and Metal Sonic, the disappointed doctor concluded that the train would never make it there and had Orbot and Cubot prepare a bath for him.
In Sonic Mania Adventures, during Sonic's absence, Dr. Eggman managed to collect four of the Chaos Emeralds that laid buried on Angel Island. When Sonic returned to Angel Island, Eggman made Sonic follow him to a clearing where he had set a trap for Sonic by flying over Sonic with a Capsule full of kidnapped Flickies in the Egg Mobile. Leaving the Capsule in the open, Sonic got caught in Eggman's trap when he opened the Capsule. As the Capsule turned into a timed bomb, Eggman appeared to gloat to Sonic. Eggman was then about to leave Sonic to get blown up until Sonic showed him the Chaos Emerald he had. Eggman promptly tried to steal it, but got lured into his own trap by Sonic, who proceeded to break free. Before Sonic left though, Eggman almost guilt-tripped Sonic into releasing him before his bomb could blow up. However, Eggman dropped his handheld, which revealed his plan to cheat Sonic and take his Emerald. Sonic thus accelerated the countdown on Eggman's bomb and left Eggman to have his bomb blow up in his face.
Detecting the next Chaos Emerald on the island, Eggman went to excavate it. While at work, he was confronted by Sonic, but Eggman repelled Sonic with his excavation mobile. Before Eggman got the Emerald however, Sonic returned with Tails. As the heroes smacked Eggman around, the doctor almost got Sonic with his excavation mobile, only to be foiled by Tails. The two heroes then critically damaged Eggman's excavation mobile, which led to Eggman getting sent flying when his machine blew up. Landing on Angel Island's beach, Eggman discovered via a Badnik that Knuckles had the Master Emerald out in the open, and began making an evil plan that involved the Tornado. Boarding the biplane, Eggman used it to take the Master Emerald while Knuckles was distracted. As Eggman flew away with the massive gem, Knuckles assumed that Sonic was behind the theft since all he could see was the hedgehog's plane taking the Emerald.
Having returned to his base, Eggman gleefully witnessed the arrival of Metal Sonic (who had found the last Chaos Emerald), Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Mighty, and Ray. When Metal Sonic returned, he gave the final Chaos Emerald to Eggman. Then, upon Sonic and Tails' arrival, Metal Sonic took the duo's two Chaos Emeralds. Eggman then left Metal Sonic to harness the power of all the Chaos Emeralds and take Sonic on. Even as Mighty and Ray entered the fray, the doctor remained undeterred. However, he was shocked when Tails trapped Metal Sonic and stripped him of all the Emeralds. Despite this setback, Eggman used his backup plan by having Metal Sonic harness the power of the Master Emerald. Unfortunately, Knuckles arrived and punched both Eggman and Metal Sonic out of Eggman's lair before anything could happen. Crashing in the jungle with Metal Sonic, Eggman cursed his defeat. When Metal Sonic would not work either, Eggman tried to make him rise by kicking him. When that did not work, a sour Eggman decided to abandon him in the jungle and left in a huff.
Several months later, during winter, Eggman heard someone use his doorbell. When Eggman went out to check his door however, all he found was Metal Sonic with a bow on his forehead and a flower in his hand. After examining Metal Sonic and his flower, Eggman decided to take Metal Sonic back and took him into his lair.
In Papercraft Mania Adventures, Eggman, wearing a disguise, sets up a jewelry cart during Valentine's Day, advertising a sale for the holiday. He is selling seven rings with Chaos Emeralds as the jewels. Sonic comes across the cart, not recognizing Eggman, wishes to go Super Sonic, taking all the rings from the cart. After Knuckles recieves the rings, they are knocked out of his hands and fall into the ocean, revealing themselves to be fake emeralds. Amy then gives Knuckles her Piko Piko Hammer and he smashes up the jewelry cart as Eggman runs away, with Knuckles putting up an "Out of Business" sign on the ruined cart.
In Trio of Trouble, Eggman was traveling through the ruins of Northstar Islands alongside Fang the Hunter and Trip the Sungazer, although because Fang had fallen asleep at the wheel of the Marvelous Queen and had a nightmare of being eliminated by Sonic and his friends, he ended up bumping into Eggman from behind, prompting the doctor to turn around and tell him off. He later stepped on a flower that Trip was admiring, greatly saddening her. Eggman also ended up obliviously setting off an arrow trap in the ruins, which also promptly activated several other traps that Fang nearly prevented from killing himself, Eggman, and Trip. Eggman then tells off Fang yet again for running him over earlier, before using his onboard light in his helmet to investigate the ruins room he was in, eventually finding a mural depicting the Black Dragon and proceeding to draw a crude copy of the mural due to realizing it would be invaluable to warding off Sonic, being completely oblivious to Fang and Trip's run-in with a giant snake.
In Chao In Space, as Christmas was approaching, Dr. Eggman, disguised as Santa Claus, climbed up a giant mountain with the Neutral Garden on the top, hoping to steal the presents there. As he made his way up, however, a sleepwalker Neutral Chao ran towards him and punched him in the face, sending him plummeting down as a confused Sonic watched.
In Sonic and the Secret Rings, Dr. Eggman does not appear. However, he is mentioned by Sonic when he meets Eggman's counterpart from the world of the Arabian Nights, King Shahryar causing Sonic to think Eggman was behind Erazor Djinn's plot.
In Sonic and the Black Knight, Dr. Eggman makes a few cameos on some of the pieces of fan artwork that made it into the game.

In the Adventure Tours mode in the Nintendo DS version of the game, Dr. Eggman and Bowser are the main antagonists. After they did not receive an invitation to the Winter Olympics, they decided to take revenge by getting the official Winter Olympics canceled and then establish their own winter Olympics. To accomplish this, Eggman kidnapped the Snow Spirits while Bowser melted the snow on Winter Island with his fire. In the end, the villains managed to catch almost every Snow Spirit, except for Frosty, which Eggman disregarded as five Snow Spirits were enough to make all the snow they would need. The others were locked in cages that Eggman and Bowser had left under the supervision of their allies. Unfortunately, Frosty would seek out Sonic and Mario to have them stop Eggman and Bowser and rescue the other Snow Spirits.
When Sonic and Mario reach Icepeak after freeing several Snow Spirits, Eggman and Bowser will show up to watch the heroes' clash with Rouge after they convinced her to face the heroes with a bribe consisting of Whitestones. When she is defeated however, Eggman and Bowser deny her their promised prize, prompting her to chase Eggman and Bowser away and making them drop one of the caged Snow Spirits for the heroes to free. However, the villains had managed to kidnap Frosty in the meantime and take him to Blizland, which they had turned into a common hideout that combined elements from Eggman's bases and Bowser's castles. When Sonic and Mario later reach the end of their hideout after freeing Frosty, Eggman and Bowser give them three final challenges to pass. The first is Blazing Bobsleigh, then Fever Hockey, and finally Extreme Snowboarding. Once their rivals have defeat them, they are disappointed that they lost, but are then angered about it and escape. In the aftermath, all the Snow Spirits have been freed and bring the snow back, thus allowing the winter Olympics to resume. After Bowser Jr. and Metal Sonic join the team, Bowser and Eggman can be challenged again. After losing, they decide to join the group to improve their skills with Mario and Sonic allowing it.

In the Nintendo 3DS version of the game, Eggman belongs to the Tricksters class and can only take part in sports events selected for this class. In the game's story mode, Dr. Eggman came to London and sat up his base inside Big Ben, where he practiced with Metal Sonic in preparation for the Olympic Games. One day, they traveled to the stadium where Dr. Eggman was frustrated by the lack of progress in Metal Sonic's speed, despite all the modifications Eggman had given him. Suddenly though, Bowser Jr. showed up and wanted to beat Metal Sonic in a race. Eggman accepted the offer on the condition that if Bowser Jr. lost, he would become his servant. To Eggman's surprise however, Metal Sonic lost the race, and the doctor had to keep his promise and tell Bowser about his son's performance. Eggman also wanted to research Bowser Jr. to collect data he could use to upgrade Metal Sonic. Bowser Jr., however, did not permit this as it was not a part of their deal. As compensation for this, he ordered Eggman to buy him a snack.
Later on, Eggman and Metal Sonic were practicing taekwondo in Eggman's base. However, when Eggman beat Metal Sonic, Orbot and Cubot suggested that Eggman had programmed Metal Sonic to lose to him. Needing someone else to test Metal Sonic on, Eggman joked that Orbot and Cubot should go up against him, which his lackeys thought he was serious about. As he told Orbot and Cubot to come up with something else, the pair would suddenly inform Eggman that they had noticed Waluigi on the monitor. Seeing him as a worthy opponent, Eggman and his robots went to the streets of London and detained Waluigi. Dr. Eggman suggested that he took part in a duel with Metal Sonic, which he got Waluigi to do by offering to help him win the title of Superstar from Luigi. After Waluigi lost, Eggman was pleased with the results and sent Waluigi off. However, Eggman saw that Metal Sonic lacked raw power. As such, the doctor sent Orbot and Cubot out to bring him Wario. During negotiations, Eggman arrived in person and agreed that if Wario could defeat Metal Sonic, he would give him Orbot and Cubot. If Metal Sonic won though, Wario had to give him something. After Wario was defeated, Eggman accepted a mysterious urn from him, which he was intrigued by. After returning to his base, Eggman placed the urn in his machine and opened it a bit. A piece of fog then came out of the urn and created a clone of Sonic. After Eggman defeated the clone, he closed the urn again. Eggman then explained to his robots that the urn contained the magical Phantasmal Fog, capable of creating copies of people you think about. He also explained that 300 years ago, these clones were supposed to deter robbers from stealing the urn. Regardless, Eggman decided to use it later, and for now focus on preparations for the Olympic Games.
Eggman later met Bowser during one afternoon in Hyde Park. There, they both complained that they had not received their invitations for the Olympic Games yet. They soon after met Amy and Peach, who offered to bring them their invitations in person if they won against them in a beach volleyball match. If they lost, however, they would have to wait for the invitations to come to them by mail. Even though the villains were defeated however, Amy and Peach decided to bring them their invitations. Toads later arrived, and Eggman and Bowser stopped them to ask them what they were doing. The Toads told them that they were helping with the invitations and were heading out to mail them. However, Eggman and Broawer got angry with them for causing the delay and scared the Toads off, causing them to drop a pair of invitations. Eggman and Bowser investigated the invitations and saw they were written by Peach and Amy, causing them to believe that they were love letters to Sonic and Mario instead of their invitations. Believing this was causing the delay, they took the invitations and headed off for sightseeing, planning to wait for their actual invitations to arrive in the mail. During this time, they completely forgot about their invitations. Later on, during one night, Eggman and Bowser were watching the city from their base, nervous that the Olympics would start without them. Outraged, Eggman decided to use the Phantasmal Fog to cover all of London in fog so that the Olympics could not proceed. Eggman also deployed Fog Machines throughout the city that were guarded by Bowser's servants and Eggman's allies.
After Sonic and Mario had destroyed most of the Fog Machines, Eggman created 3D holograms of himself and Bowser, which he sent to delay the destruction of the last two Fog Machines. Eggman's hologram was sent to stop Wario from destroying a Fog Machine in Eton Dorney, as he believed it would deter his enemies. Regardless, Wario defeated the hologram and got ready to destroy the Fog Machine, only to discover that this one was also a hologram, meaning the real one was elsewhere. Eggman's hologram then met Metal Sonic, and together with him, it set out to defend the last Fog Machine from Wario and Waluigi. However, Wario and Waluigi won their subsequent clash with Eggman and Metal Sonic, and Wario destroyed the last Fog Machine. Wario and Waluigi then kept an eye on the Eggman hologram until it disappeared. Eggman then decided to fully open the Fog urn in his base and unleash the full potential of the Phantasmal Fog. When Sonic and Mario later arrived to stop Eggman and Bowser's plan, the villains had been powered up by the power of the Phantasmal Fog. However, they were still defeated. Eggman's Master Fog Machine was subsequently destroyed and the Phantasmal Fog was returned to its Fog urn and closed for good. Eggman and Bowser then complained that the others had forgotten to give them invitations for the Olympics. However, ails and Toad cleared up the misunderstanding by establishing that they could still sign up for the Olympics if they hurried. Eggman was later present at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.
In the Nintendo 3DS version of the game, a badge of Eggman can also be obtained from the badge machine.

In Road to Rio mode in the Nintendo 3DS version of the game, Dr. Eggman and Bowser teamed up once again. This time, they stole the Olympic medals and framed Sonic and Mario's gyms for the theft. However, they were eventually stopped by Sonic and Mario, who were helped by the Mii.
In Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, Eggman is a playable character in both the Nintendo Switch and arcade version of the game.
In the Nintendo Switch version of the game, Eggman appears as one of the main antagonists in the story mode. In this mode, Eggman created the Tokyo '64 console, within which he recreated the world of the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Then, thanks to a Magikoopa's spell, he designed the console to create a beam of light that would trap anyone touched by the light inside the console. Eggman and Bowser then sent the game to Sonic and Mario, hoping to trap the heroes inside the Tokyo '64. However, while the villains hid to watch the results, Bowser got impatient, which led to Eggman, Bowser, Sonic, Mario and Toad all getting sucked into the Tokyo '64. Inside the heavily pixelated world of the Tokyo '64, Eggman and Bowser's plot was realized by the heroes, who asked for a way out. Eggman, however, claimed there was no way back to the real world. Eggman then encouraged Bowser to compete with him in the Olympic Games featured inside the Tokyo '64 so they could win gold medals. However, the villains soon found themselves facing Sonic and Mario, who had decided to compete as well. During the ensuing event, Eggman was beaten by Sonic, who claimed the medal. After Bowser then lost to Mario, Eggman tried telling Bowser in secret that the medals were needed to escape the Tokyo '64, and that his earlier claim about there being no escape was a lie to hide the truth from Sonic and Mario. However, the two then saw that Toad had been listening. Eggman and Bowser proceeded to sneak away before Sonic and Mario could confront them. Eggman then led Sonic on a wild goose chase to stall him while he searched for more venues.
Eggman and Bowser later met up in the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium. However, their plan to get medals unopposed were foiled when Sonic and Mario showed up. There, Eggman was forced to tell the heroes the truth about the way out of the Tokyo '64. With the heroes refusing to let the villains get the medals, Eggman was challenged by Mario to an event. After Mario claimed the gold, Bowser began billettering Eggman, who refuting that the heroes would not know what to do with the medals. As Eggman and Bowser later tried discussing what the medals were used for, they noticed Sonic nearby. Eggman thus tried to make up a lie, before leaving with Bowser. Later, in Nippon Budokan, Eggman and Bowser tried to win the gold, only for Sonic and Mario to show up. There, Sonic beat Bowser and earned another medal. Eggman then had him and Bowser split up for now and devise a new plan somewhere else. After Eggman tried to throw Sonic off his trail, he reunited with Bowser at the Olympic Cauldron in the National Stadium. There, Eggman revealed to Bowser that by inserting fourteen gold medals into fourteen keyholes underneath the Olympic Cauldron, one would be able to escape the Tokyo '64. However, the villains soon discovered that Sonic, Mario and Toad had been snooping on their conversation. Accepting that the secret was out, Eggman decided to get more medals than everyone, with Bowser following him to another venue. Followed by the heroes to the National Gymnasium, Eggman challenged Sonic to an event, but lost. Soon after though, a screen that eventually said that "Power-up Items" from Eggman Nega were on the way appeared.
As mysterious items fell all over the digital world, Eggman and Bowser hurried out to get them and use them to win medals. At the Tokorozawa Shooting Range, Eggman got a hold of a "Miracle Roll" power-up which he used to amplify his skills. Confronted then by the trio of heroes, Eggman took on Mario, but lost the medal to Mario in spite of his power boost. As such, Eggman left to find more Miracle Rolls. He eventually tried to get one from Tokyo Tower, but was foiled by Sonic and Mario. Eggman later reconvened with Bowser in the National Stadium where they discussed their status until Sonic and Mario came. There, Eggman was challenged by Mario to an event to test their power. Though Eggman lost the event, he was sure that he could just call Eggman Nega for more power-ups. When he did however, everything around them began flickering, which was a sign that the Tokyo '64 was running out of battery. Sonic wondered what it would mean to them if the battery ran out, to which Eggman said that they would all vanish. This prompted the villains to challenge the heroes to another event to get the medals needed to escape to the real world. With the heroes accepting the challenge, the group went to the Komazawa Olympic Park General Sports Ground. There, Eggman's team of Eggrobos lost to Sonic and his team of Pockies. Regardless, Bowser assured Eggman that they still had the final event left and that they could just take Sonic and Mario's medals if needed.
Heading to the National Stadium, Eggman and Bowser met Sonic and Mario there, where Mario faced Bowser in the final event. After Mario won the last gold medal, Eggman reminded Bowser to initiate their plan about stealing the medals. However, Bowser could not find the medals after knocking out Sonic and Mario. After Toad revealed that Sonic and Mario had given him the medals for safekeeping, Eggman tried to come up with a new plan, but Sonic and Mario reminded them that they did not have much time left and that they should team up to get out. Agreeing to simply have a showdown with their arch enemies once they were out, Eggman and Bowser agreed to the offer. The group thus went to the Olympic Cauldron and placed the gold medals into the keyholes. Soon after, a column of light appeared to take them back to the real world. While this was happening however, everything around them began to flicker again, signifying that the battery had run out. The group subsequently began to fade away while unable to reach the escape route. Fortunately, they were saved in the last second when Tails and Luigi replaced the battery on the Tokyo '64. Now restored, Eggman and the others reached the exit and return to the real world.
After Eggman complemented Eggman Nega for his hand in getting them out of the Tokyo '64, he and Bowser confronted Sonic and Mario, ready to settle things with them. As such, Eggman and Bowser faced Sonic and Mario in a 100m event, alongside other competitors. After they lost, Eggman and Bowser got mad, but quickly got over it.

In truth, however, he had actually survived and went into hiding for a very long time, having built a robot that would heal his injuries.
When the Nocturnus Clan began causing havok on Earth, Eggman was located in Green Hill Zone by Sonic and his friends. There, he claimed that he had changed and teamed up with the heroes to defeat the clan of echidnas. The "reformed" doctor then helped the team reach Metropolis when Angel Island was being pulled there by the Nocturnus Clan. During this, he would befriend Tails because of their shared intellect. When the clan's leader, Ix, later made a portal that lead to their home in the Twilight Cage, Eggman and the fox built a vehicle that helped them enter that dimension. While the hedgehog and his crew left, however, the doctor stayed behind, claiming that he was doing so to prepare for an impeding Nocturnus invasion should the heroes fail. In truth though, the villain had used the years that had trespassed to successfully conquer all of Earth and finally establish the Eggman Empire unopposed.

Every step of the way however, his plans got foiled by Team Sonic.
For his final scheme, Eggman revised one of his old plans by building another Brainwashing Laser to control the world with, except this time it would be powered by the Chaos Emeralds. Although Team Sonic kept interfering with his operations, Eggman was successful in extracting all the energy from the Emeralds for his laser. When it came to the final showdown with Team Sonic, Eggman tried using his Brainwashing Laser on Sonic after the doctor was defeated by him. However, the Chaos Emeralds that Sonic held absorbed the energy from the laser and transformed Sonic into Super Sonic. As Super Sonic destroyed his laser, Eggman snuck away to plot his next scheme.
In Sonic Runners Adventure, Dr. Eggman began another attempt to brainwash the world into serving him. For this scheme, Eggman build another mind control cannon, one powered by the latent energies in Sky Sanctuary and a new Extractor.
Arriving on South Island, Eggman captured Tails using his mind control ray and forced him to build him a robot teleporter. While Eggman built up his Badnik army however, Sonic would arrive and free Tails before confronting Eggman. Forced to retreat by the blue hedgehog, Eggman fled to Desert Ruins through Tails' teleporter. After Tails then made a mess of Eggman forces and defeated him in battle, Eggman fled to Lava Mountain. There, Knuckles shut down Eggman's Extractor despite Eggman's attempts to stop him. Fleeting to Sky Sanctuary after that to salvage what remained of his plans, Eggman managed to escape Sonic by using his mind control ray on him. However, Team Sonic destroyed Eggman's mind control cannon not long after. Eggman was then dealt another defeat by Sonic. Making another escape, Eggman promised the heroes revenge.

As the player accumulates pink crystals, Eggman tries to demotivate them from collecting more pink crystals. He also appears in messages on the HUD when thresholds are reached and Chao is unlocked. In the game v1.6 update during the "Chemical Plant Event", Eggman appears on the surrounding screens when the player first enters Chemical Plant, being responsible for capturing Stealth Suit Sonic in a trap that repeatedly electrocutes him, with the doctor boasting that nothing can break the trap except for Data Disks. As the player accumulates Data Disks, the villain gets more and more frustrated. When Stealth Suit Sonic has been unlocked/freed, Eggman, enraged, resorts to charging Metal Sonic's pod which would hopefully reactivate him.
In the Shadow the Hedgehog event, Eggman catches Shadow and locks him in the Arsenal Pyramid but is then freed by the player.
Eventually though, the villain got kicked out of his base in Winter Caverns Zone by his foremost robot minions after Heavy King took control of them. With the trecherous robot going after the Chaos Emeralds next, Eggman hired Fang and his gang to find the gems first without revealing any details.
While in Autumn Forest Zone, Eggman was pursuing Metal Sonic in his Egg Mobile in an attempt to trigger a close-ranged, remote-controlled jamming signal that would free the robot from Heavy King's control. However, he was intercepted by Sonic, Tails and Knuckles, whom he engaged in battle using his hovercraft. During the fight, Metal Sonic escaped. When the doctor later got defeated, Fang's gang, along with Amy, Mightyand Ray, caught up with him and demanded an explanation. After telling the others everything, they agreed to help him stop Heavy King from using the Chaos Emeralds. After the group made their way to Winter Caverns Zone, the villain watched with glee as his nemesis got ambushed by Metal Sonic twice. As the others engaged the robot and Metal Knuckles, Eggman ended up working with Tails, who tried finding a way to jam the signal Heavy King was using to control the Metals from the Egg Mobile. Fortunately, Tails Dollshowed up, whom the doctor used to boost his jamming signal. With the Metals back under his command, Eggman ordered them to help the group. He then opened the door to Heavy King's base (before Bark and Mighty could smash it) where they confronted the rouge Hard Boiled Heavy. After the robot was stripped of the Chaos Emeralds and defeated, the villain accepted a conceding Heavy King back to his service (although not without promising to upload a software patch that would keep him from rebelling again). Eggman then ordered his minions to take the Chaos Emeralds from his former allies, only to discover that they had already left with them. In addition, with his minions either destroyed, depleted of energy or otherwise unable to carry out his command of retrieving the Emeralds, a mopey Eggman ordered Heavy King to make a grilled cheese.
Eggman, along with his Badnik Horde, later attacked a town, which led to the Mr. Munch-Um's Road Rally being cancelled.
Awakening one morning in his headquarters, Eggman realized while taking a shower and getting dressed that it was his birthday. Assuming his Badniks would attempt another unwanted birthday party in his honor, he braced himself for the celebration. Finding nobody in his base however, he searched through his whole base, suspecting his the robots were throwing him a surprise party. When he searched his surveillance room, he found out his troops were on the way to attack Sonic and Tails and destroy them as his birthday gift. Knowing they stood no chance against the heroes, the villain quickly swooped in with his Egg Mobile and ordered his Badniks to fall back. Meanwhile, he heard Sonic's birthday greeting as well, but ignored it. After everyone had returned to base, the doctor berated his army for their carelessness and explained why he did not want to celebrate his birthday until they explained they wanted to do something nice for him. Softening up a little, Eggman admitted their company was adequate, but threatened them not to do this again. Afterward, he conceded to their birthday party and (reluctantly) blew out the candles on his birthday cake.
Eggman would task Metal Sonic in capturing sonic and friends and imprison them in Capsules. Eggman would come back to Eggman Island Zonein failure as everyone managed to escape.
Eggman was near one of his old bases and notice Fang, Bark, and Bean in which he rescues them from sinking. Later on Eggman asks Fang's Gang why they were in his territory, Fang mentioning how it was sinking after its destruction and was technically abandoned, but Eggman still claims it to be his base. Bean then says to Fang to just tell him what they were doing and Fang says they were looking for the 8th Chaos Emerald. Eggman says it's a hoax, though Fang backs up his claim saying he heard about it through his contacts and wants to prove everyone wrong. Eggman makes a deal for their assistance on a mission; Fang denies but the doctor threatens them with a pool of Mashers. Eggman mentions how the Hard Boiled Heavies went rouge after testing a strange gemstone they found on the Heavy Wing, since it keeps warping on and off, and asks them to find and retrieve his ship. After Sonic and Tails sink the ship Heavy King contacts Eggman telling him their test flight caught the attention of the duo, Eggman frustrated replies saying how he commands them to return straight to base, In the meantime Eggman contacts Fang and requires his services saying he has been investing some strange islands and sends him the coordinates to meet him there.
Having somehow survived his defeat, an amnesiac Eggman turned up in Windmill Village. The villagers quickly locked Eggman up, only for Eggman (now displaying a friendlier disposition) to break out and reinforce his cell. The villagers proceeded to test Eggman for days, and never once did he show signs of his villainous ways, leading them to the conclusion that he suffered from amnesia. Eventually, the villagers nursed his wounds and took him in. Returning the villagers' kindness, Eggman would repair anything the villagers brought him, both big and small. In time, Eggman became beloved by the village, who began calling him "Mr. Tinker". At some point, to aid him with his workshop endeavors, Eggman created a wooden robot named Belle the Tinkerer. While Eggman came to care for Belle like a daughter, Belle in turn would care about Eggman like a father and pick up things about him, including his favorite coffee order. Eventually though, Eggman introduced Belle to the townspeople, who decided to give her a chance. From there, Belle would help Eggman with various repairs.
Approximately a month after disappearing, Eggman would, after observing a child cry over a broken wagon from the shadows, promise that he would soon fix it and "everything" else.
Eggman was eventually discovered by the Chaotix, who wanted to bring Eggman to justice. Having a hard time believing the story about Eggman's amnesia, the team interrogated and observed Eggman for a couple of days, only to conclude that his amnesia was legit. However, this presented the Chaotix with a new dilemma: whether or not it was right to penalize Eggman now that he was a good man with no recollection of his evil deeds.
Eggman was soon after introduced to Sonic, whom the Chaotix had brought in, by Charmy. Seemingly not remembering Sonic, Eggman attempted to greet him. However, Eggman got scoffed by a suspicious Sonic, who began questioning him. When Eggman proved unable to answer Sonic's questions, Vector had him return to his work while he and the others discussed what to do about Eggman. When Badniks then approached the town, Eggman took in upon himself to ensure the safety of the village's children, much to the surprise of Sonic, whom Eggman begged to help them. After the Badniks had been dealt with, Sonic and the Chaotix decided to leave Eggman to his new life in the village. Eggman's thus had a proper greeting with Sonic when he and the Chaotix prepared to leave. However, after Eggman expressed his hope that the hedgehog would come back to visit so that he could show him "Eggman Land" once it was completed, the group noticed Shadow and Rougeon the rooftops, with the former seeking to eliminate Eggman after hearing him mention "Eggman Land". When Shadow tried to get to the nervous Eggman however, Sonic intervened and lured Shadow away. Eggman subsequently withdrew to his house with Rouge watching over him until Shadow returned. The hedgehog abrasively demanded that he showed him "Eggman Land", to which Eggman complied: he took the heroes to a cabin that held a kids play area that he had been constructing in secret. Eggman explained that name "Eggman Land" came to him while constructing it, and believed it to be a ridiculous-sounding name that the kids would find funny. After Shadow and Rouge departed, Eggman and Sonic shared some parting words, with Sonic promising Eggman that he would be back soon.
While singing for the children playing in his Eggman Land amusement park, Eggman received a visit from Rough and Tumble. The skunk brothers proceeded to kidnap Eggman, who cried out for help as he was being taken away. He was subsequently brought to the Final Egg and was restrained. There, Eggman met Dr. Starline, who was interested in bringing back Eggman to his former glory. Despite Eggman's protests against being anyone else but the one he was now, Starline ignored him and started to electrocute him through the use of special goggles. After finishing the first round of his procedure, Starline asked Eggman if he was feeling more like himself.
After three sessions using neuro-stimulants and aggressive hypnotherapy, Eggman began gravitating towards his old inventions, but not his old personality. By the time Eggman had built a shrub-trimming Motobug though, he realized that his fate was sealed. Having seen that Starline may be right about him being the infamous would-be despot and that he would eventually regain his original persona in spite of his wishes, Eggman wrote a confession for Belle to ease his conscience and tell how much he loved her, which he then hid away inside his newly-made Motobug. Soon after, Orbot and Cubot tried helping him remember by suggesting that he should abuse them amongst other things. However, Eggman dismissed this notion and instead showed them kindness. When a badly damaged Metal Sonic then arrived in the Final Egg, Eggman initially took pity on him. However, the sight of Metal Sonic made Eggman remember his past with him, prompting his memories and old personality to resurface. Having no recollection of his time as "Mr. Tinker", Eggman demanded an explanation on everything. While Dr. Starline introduced himself and brought Eggman up to speed, Eggman went to work repairing Metal Sonic while ordering Orbot and Cubot to fetch his old clothes. Eggman was then introduced to Starline's associates, Rough and Tumble, who did not impress Eggman until he heard that they hated Sonic. As such, he offered to make them weapons and sent them after Sonic, something the skunk brothers gladly accepted. As he got dressed, Eggman heard how Starline helped get him back to old self. During Starline's story, Eggman was also introduced to Starline's Warp Topaz. Although the gem did not impress him, Starline instead provided Eggman with the seven Chaos Emeralds as his "apprenticeship application". Impressed, Eggman accepted Starline as his newest lackey.
After reviewing the attempts Neo Metal Sonic made to return the Eggman Empire to global dominance in his absence with Starline, Eggman decided to go with a new plan instead of trying with Neo Metal Sonic again. However, he needed time to test and prepare, so he assigned Starline to distract Sonic in the meantime. When Rough and Tumble then complained to the doctor about their weapon designs, the doctor simply swapped the blueprints between the brothers as they had each received the incorrect one. Afterward, Eggman began reviewing the schematics on the Metal Virus. Although, Cubot was unsure if he wanted to unleash it on the world, Eggman was firm in his decision, having decided to make the world suffer for his latest indignity.
Taking Dr. Starline's advice to mess with Sonic, Eggman had him sent Sonic a message instead of making a global proclamation that foreshadowed his return and would bait him into Rough and Tumble's hands. When Eggman later finished his first batch of the Metal Virus, Starline confirmed the execution of his bait for Sonic. Although Starline thought an ambush would be sufficient, Eggman assured him that this was subtle for him. After that, he and Starline began experimenting with the Metal Virus. Using a flower and some animals as test subjects, Eggman saw with glee how his virus transmuted flora and fauna into robotic slaves through touch while leaving processed and inorganic matter alone, making him declare his Metal Virus a success. Noticing Starline's pride in their collaboration, Eggman questioned him about how he found him, to which Starline explained that he used his Warp Topaz. With it, Starline showed Eggman the battle Sonic and Tails had with Rough and Tumble. When the skunk brothers stood to loose though, Eggman turned his attention towards implementing the Metal Virus for the next phase of his plan in spite of Starline's reservations about having so few data samples on it. When Rough and Tumble then asked for a second chance, Eggman saw Metal Sonic step up to take a shot at Sonic. While Eggman found it delightful, Starline offered to let him take a shot at Sonic.
After sending Starline, Eggman returned to his studies of the Metal Virus. After an experiment, he discovered that the virus's infection of a victim accelerated with each new exposure to infected victims. With this discovery, Eggman begun planning to administer the Metal Virus in different places for the next phase of his plan. However, he got interrupted by Rough and Tumble, who were tired of waiting and wanted him to make good on his promise to help them beat Sonic. Noticing an opportunity, Eggman told them that his "latest weapon just got out of beta". Later, after seeing Starline's attempt to kill Sonic with a bomb, Eggman angrily pulled Starline through his Warp Topaz's portal when he tried to return to base and told him that Sonic was his to kill and that simply destroying him is unsatisfying to him. After Starline apologized, Eggman let him go and checked the video feed from the bomb site. As Eggman had suspected, Sonic survived the explosion. Eggman then asked Starline why he saved his "obsolete junk" at the bomb site, to which Starline explained that they were collectibles of Eggman's legacy to him. Allowing this, Eggman asked Starline of his impression of Sonic, to which Starline said that the experience had "put a lot of things into a new perspective."
Later, Dr. Eggman, Orbot and Cubot were preparing special backpacks containing the Metal Virus when Starline informed Eggman that Sonic and Amy had hacked into the Eggnet in Echo Mine. Taking this well, Eggman told Cubot to get Rough and Tumble to meet him in hangar three. As Eggman walked off with his backpacks, Starline worried about the situation, but Eggman told him to get used to them. In the hangar, Eggman showed Rough and Tumble the backpacks and told them to open them in case Sonic gained the upper hand. However, Eggman did not reveal what would happen to them. He then presented the skunk brothers with a large tank with a drill and cannons to use against Sonic. Rough and Tumble soon after attacked Sonic and Amy in their tank, which Eggman and Starline observed through surveillance. However, the skunks quickly lost their tank and then got themselves unwillingly covered in the Metal Virus in their backpacks, turning them into Zombots. Although Rough and Tumble got trapped in a refuse pit, Eggman was pleased with the outcome, as they had managed to infect Sonic with the Metal Virus. He then explained to Starline that it was time to share the Metal Virus with the rest of the world.
Heading into the new Faceship, Eggman told an amazed Starline about how he put it together so quickly and the limits of his Badniks, which he would replace with Zombots. Onboard the Faceship, Eggman had Orbot and Cubot launch it and take them towards their first target. Eggman then gave Starline a tour of the Faceship, showing him things like the power generator (which were the seven Chaos Emeralds), the viewing area, and the Metal Virus factory. In the meantime, Eggman gloated about the global army of Zombots he would soon command, which would allow him to carry out any project and conquer other worlds and dimensions. While Starline supported Eggman's vision, he noted that he could not cover the whole planet in his Metal Virus. In response, Eggman told Starline that by dropping the Metal Virus in a few populated habitats, the Zombots created would spread the virus quickly. Eventually arriving over Windmill Village, Eggman had the village dowsed in the Metal Virus. With the population quickly turned into Zombots, Eggman asked Starline for his opinion, who told Eggman that he had exceeded his expectations. Eggman accepted the compliment and immediately sent the Zombots out to invade other villages.
As the Faceship moved onward, Starline asked Eggman about his penchant for building amusement park-like facilities, to which Eggman replied that he simply likes theme parks. While Starline got it, he noted that those resources could be spent more economically. In response, Eggman explained that he was simply making the world how he wanted it to be, as he will not settle with it as it was: if he wanted his enemies' last experiences to be amusement themes, then he would make it happen.
Dr. Eggman soon discovered that Mimic had not only lied about killing Whisper the Wolf but she was the one who helped turn the tide of battle during the Eggman War. Eggman swiftly got back into contact with Mimic and ordered him to actually kill Whisper this time or he would hunt him down. Much later, Eggman was told by Mimic that he managed to kill both Whisper and Tangle the Lemur, but the doctor wanted physical evidence of that. When Mimic drove back to the site of where he blew up Eggman's former base to kill the girls, Eggman told him that he did not need more people opposing him and stated that he would send Metal Sonic after him if he did not succeed. Mimic did not manage to find the bodies of Tangle or Whisper but was led by footprints to a small ditch that had the words "WE END THIS WHERE WE STARTED" engraved into it. From this, Mimic asked Eggman for backup.
In his Eggcave, Eggman screamed in fury as he could not find the light switch. Starline soon ran into him and some cardboard boxes. Eggman explained that the light switch was installed by a robot at the other end of the room. After turning on the lights, Eggman showed his Eggcave to Starline, his private sanctuary where he would relax on his days off, build figurines, work on personal projects and devise new strategies. Eggman then began to play with the figures of himself and his enemies, explaining in more detail what his days off were. Starline praised the detail with which the figures were made. Eggman explained that soon all of his enemies would turn into Zombots and serve him. As Starline was examining various figures, he came across one that represented himself as a Zombot. After a moment of awkward silence, Eggman took the statuette from him and asked him to knock next time, stating that whatever happened in the Eggcave stayed in the Eggcave.
Eggman next took the Faceship to Seaside Cityand distributed the Metal Virus there, transforming many of its citizens into Zombots. Eggman later formulated a plan to distribute the Metal Virus in Floral Forest Village with the Faceship, which was where Cream the Rabbit lived, meaning Sonic would head into a Zombot outbreak to attempt to rescue Cream while risking his own safety. After Sonic arrived, Eggman mocked the hedgehog over the telecoms. Eggman later told his newly transformed Zombots to pile up on Sonic. However, Cubot reported back that the Zombots were ignoring his command. Orbot also showed him that there had been a steady decline in Zombots responding to Eggman's commands since the beginning of Eggman's plan. This made Eggman hypothesize that there had to be a random mutation in the Metal Virus coding due to it spreading from exposure. Starline thought that Eggman had accounted for this possibility, but the latter stated that he would work out any errors after the spread was finished since the virus was working anyway. Starline protested that the virus could get out of control, but Eggman snapped back, saying that he would find a way to control it. Annoyed with Starline, Eggman ended their conversation and went off to eat. Afterward, Eggman began heading towards Sunset City in the Faceship. Arriving at the city, the doctor and his lackeys were able to create another Zombot outbreak.
Soon, after Starline and Eggman agreed to use tight-band, localized attempts with a frequency to control the Zombots again, the duo left the Faceship and went to test frequencies on the Zombots in Barricade Town. After several failed attempts, Starline noted that it would have been wise to have a failsafe for the Metal Virus mutating beyond control. Eggman suggested that they use the Warp Topaz charged with the Chaos Emeralds and then hook it up to the Faceship. Starline refused as he already knew of the stone's sensitive traits. After Starline pointed out that Eggman was not cautious about the Zombot situation as he had not yet inoculated them to the Metal Virus, Eggman revealed that there was no cure. This shocked Starline and Eggman further revealed that he proposed not getting infected by the virus by simply not touching the Zombots. Starline brought up several worst-case scenarios to counter Eggman's logic, only for the latter to dismiss his nitpicks.
Soon, Sonic interrupted the duo's argument and questioned why Eggman went back to his villainous ways. Though Eggman gently reminisced on his past life, he told Sonic that he believed what he was doing currently was better than what he did as "Mr. Tinker" and that he had no plans to stop the Metal Virus. This infuriated Sonic and prompted him to fight the doctor. Soon, Eggman gloated to Sonic, saying that his time would soon run out and he will be too tired to run off the Metal Virus' effects. From this, Sonic attempted to grab Eggman and infect him with the virus but the doctor dodged him; this resulted in Eggman and Sonic falling to the ground below and soon finding themselves surrounded by Zombots. Before Eggman could get infected, Starline used the Egg Mobile to find a working frequency that commanded the Zombots to attack Sonic only. With this, a pleased Eggman ordered Starline to upload the frequency to the Faceship. Before the platypus could do anything, Sonic burst out from the Zombot horde and destroyed the Egg Mobile. Eggman quickly grabbed onto Starline's own transportation machine for a swift retreat. However, due to the added weight, the contraption crashed down onto the Barricade Town gate.
As Eggman berated Sonic for his interference, Starline suggested that they retreat to the Faceship so that they could try something else. Starline used the Warp Topaz to create a portal to the Faceship for himself and Eggman to go through. Back aboard the Faceship, Starline said that he was unable to upload or memorize the working frequency; however, he was able to recall the range. To Starline's dismay, Eggman did not care to do anything about this; with close-range broadcasts being too risky and the Metal Virus likely adapting to resist it, he did not want to repeat the tedious process just for another failure. When Starline asked what the next move is, Eggman said that he will start by enjoying their next outbreak, asking for the Faceship's current location. Orbot reported that they were above Spiral Hill Village, and the Metal Virus had already been deployed. Satisfied by the news, Eggman announced that he will figure out his next move later. Later on, Starline told Eggman that he has a solution to controlling the Zombots once again, which Eggman dismissed and demanded that he stop pestering him about it. Instead, Starline used the Warp Topaz to bring his solution onboard the Faceship; the Deadly Six.
Upon seeing the Deadly Six, Eggman immediately sent Metal Sonic to attack them. Zavok swiftly used his electromagnetism to control the robot and tauntingly reminded Eggman how they were able to control robots. Following this, Starline presented the Cacophonic Conch and blew into it to try and control the Zeti. Once Zazz saw that Starline had left an opening after using the conch, he headbutted him which allowed Zeena to take the conch and give it to Zavok. With Starline and Eggman defenseless, Zavok commanded Metal Sonic to attack them; however, Starline hurriedly opened a Warp Portal that transported him, Eggman and Metal Sonic away. The trio landed on Angel Island, met by Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy. Before Amy attacked them, Sonic stopped her as the doctor's presence made no sense; he had Eggman explain how the Deadly Six had taken control of the Faceship due to Starline inviting them onboard. Espio came by to the group to inform them that they had gotten word from Rouge. On the Rescue Shuttle, while Knuckles and Espio kept an eye on Starline, Rouge reported that Eggman had been powering the Faceship with the Chaos Emeralds, which Zavok had now distributed to the rest of his team and then sent them out into the world. After Rouge revealed to Eggman that she snuck onto the Faceship a few days prior and planned to steal the Chaos Emeralds before the Zeti showed up, she went on to say that she was coordinating with Orbot to spy on their deployments and coordinate their counterattack. When Eggman began to gloat over his genius in his robots, an argument broke out between him and Tails over a cure for the Metal Virus, with the fox noting that he was close to making a cure himself before it was lost to Zombots. Eggman clarified that he did not need to have one as his research found that as the Metal Virus mutated, it became unsustainable; soon, every Zombot would disintegrate approximately two hundred years into the future. An injured Silver came onboard and confirmed this claim as it described his current future well. Amy rushed to Silver's aid and asked where the survivors from Ice Paradise were, only for him to report that the shuttle went down to the Zombots and he could not save anyone; when Silver thought his time may be doomed because of his failures in the present, Eggman asked if he was always this melodramatic only to have Amy snap back at him, saying that he did not get to judge.
Later outside, Eggman and the others tried to come up with ideas on how to counteract the virus. When Amy suggested that Sonic go Super Sonic to combat the virus, he reminded her that the Deadly Six had the Chaos Emeralds. Amy told him that they had to take things one step at a time and she did not hear him coming up with any bright ideas. The doctor stated that he wanted everyone to exhaust themselves of bad ideas first and presented the idea to use the Warp Topaz, as if they had Super Sonic charge it with his power, they would be able to warp the virus away with one swoop. When Amy ironically pointed out that the Deadly Six had the Chaos Emeralds, Eggman quoted her saying "One thing at a time." Starline protested against it due to its instability and suggested putting in the work on their safe haven to find another way to solve their problem and win. Eggman reminded Starline that Sonic did not have long and since he did not want the Deadly Six using his genius against him, he wanted to end things his way. Starline again refused and decided to leave and create a solution on his own; instead, Eggman had Metal Sonic restrain Starline so that he could remove his glove that had the Warp Topaz attached to it, fired him and had the robot throw Starline out via a Warp Portal. Following this, Eggman surmised that Rouge would be able to steal the two Emeralds that were on the Faceship from Zavok; Espio noted that it left five Zeti left to deal with but Silver felt confident that they would be able to overwhelm them so long as they had each other. The group realized that they would have to split up and ambush the Deadly Six all at once since there was a risk that one could contact the others should they get a sense of their plan. While Eggman thought to work on a "Multi-Portal Generator" to help the others reach their destinations, Tails thought it would be better if each person had backup in case someone turned into a Zombot; this prompted Amy to call in the Babylon Rogues to increase their numbers. Sonic managed to convince Jet to help, even though the hawk wished to get a reward out of it.
A while later, Eggman and Tails worked together to build the Multi-Portal Generator using the the Warp Topaz so that it would send everyone where they needed to go all at once. When Eggman stated that the machine was not up to his regular standards, Tails took a light jab at him saying that they should focus on building something that would not cause the island to implode. Sonic returned from his run and had come up with a plan for who should be assigned with who and what Zeti they should go after. When Knuckles refused to partake in the mission in order to stay back so that the Master Emerald did not fall into the hands of Eggman and Metal Sonic, the offended doctor asked if the echidna was implying that he would betray them at this critical juncture. Realizing the liabilities, Sonic unhesitatingly agreed with the logic of Knuckles' decision, which annoyed Eggman. After Sonic's explanation, Eggman talked about how it was up to Rouge to steal the two Emeralds on the Faceship from Zavok and escape. He goes on to say that after everyone returns, Sonic would use the Chaos Emeralds to become Super Sonic and undo the Metal Virus, jokingly adding that he may succumb to his infection first. Shortly afterwards, Tails joined Eggman in building a treadmill for Sonic as his speed was no longer countering the Metal Virus as well as it used to.
Soon, when Sonic was running on his new custom treadmill, he turned to Metal Sonic and talked about how Eggman did not get a chance to stay reformed due to Starline. However, Metal Sonic had a choice and chose to go back to Eggman, unlike the scientist's other sentient robots Gemerl and Omega. Eggman stepped into the conversation, asking if Sonic actually thought neutralizing the robot would make him less of a threat. When the hedgehog made it clear that he did, Eggman explained that he only neutralized his hardware but not his software, which demanded battle and conquest; his sole desire from that point on would be to become dangerous again. Sonic pointed out that they did not think anyone could restore him, to which Eggman found him to be right on; however, he did not know about Starline or his return, which had things take a turn for the worse for the hedgehog. Sonic then brought up how Eggman was living happily and peacefully as Mr. Tinker, bringing joy to others and slyly remarked on how it must have been a waste. When Eggman asked when Sonic is going to let that go, the hedgehog responded that it was to be done until he got a clue. Eggman told Sonic not to get too high-and-mighty on him, noting that he helped spread the Metal Virus. Though Sonic noted that he was not dumping gallons of it on people, Eggman clarified that Sonic did fight back the infection for a while and wondered how much it mutated after the failed attempts to remove it; Eggman continued asking how much he spread it fighting Zombots and many miles of infected grass he crossed, or rather caused. Sonic passed Eggman's comments as trying to get into his head and told him it will not work. The doctor did not believe this and told his archenemy that he had infected him with a little germ of doubt, noting that even when it was all over he would not be able to shake it; Eggman dubbed this as his passing gift to the hedgehog. Sonic told Eggman that they would go back to being enemies when it was all over, which the doctor responds saying that they never ceased their feud and that helping him was just a convenience. Soon, when it became time for the survivors to take off for their missions, Tails got all the coordinates set in and Eggman adjusted the Warp Portal apertures. Everyone shortly left after this.
A little while later, Eggman and Sonic saw that the Faceship was approaching Angel Island, meaning that Zavok had found them. When everyone else arrived back on the island, except for Cream, Gemerl, and the Babylon Rogues, Metal Sonic caught Jet's Extreme Gear and Eggman retrieved the Chaos Emerald attached to it. The doctor realized that this meant that the Babylon Rogues did not make it. Once Tails sees that the Faceship drew closer, Eggman sarcastically told him that he caught on fast. The doctor contacted Rouge to tell her that they were out of time and she should quickly execute her plan. She soon flew out of the Faceship with the white Chaos Emerald in hand, forcing the ship to short circuit and fall into the ocean on top of the many Zombots Zavok had led there. Eggman complained that his best effort to date had gone to waste, with Sonic adding that he was glad that the Zombots could survive that sort of damage. When Sonic asked Rouge about Zavok's Chaos Emerald, she told him that they will retrieve it when the fires die down and stated that the Zeti was not going anywhere; Eggman contradicted this, pointing back down to Zavok who was emerging from the rubble and was heading straight for them. The Zeti proceeded to power himself up with his Chaos Emerald, transforming into Giant Zavok; he then shot a fireball from his mouth at the island in anger. To follow up, he threw a horde of Zombots onto the island, some of which were familiar faces to Eggman.
As Sonic needed to reach Zavok in order to retrieve the final Chaos Emerald, he requested for Metal Sonic to help him fly over to him. Eggman allowed this and told Metal Sonic to activate his defensive measures and do as Sonic said. Soon, Eggman was approached by a Zombot Big but the cat was attacked by Amy and her hammer. Seeing a window of opportunity, Eggman kicked Amy into Big and began to run off to the Rescue Shuttle to make his escape. However, he sliped on a Zombot Froggy, leaving the frog to pounce on the distraught doctor. Eventually, with the combined efforts of Super Sonic and Super Silver, they were able to warp the entirety of the Metal Virus away from the world and to the sun. This turned Froggy back to normal and saved Eggman from infection, leaving the defeated doctor to sulk as the frog rested on his back.
Super Sonic had tried ditching the Warp Topaz in the Super Warp Portal he and Super Silver created, only for it to result in a large explosion that Sonic disappeared through. While everyone else wondered where Sonic had gone, Eggman took the opportunity to sneak away to the Rescue Shuttle for a quick getaway. He did not give much thought to Sonic's disappearance, unlike the hedgehog's friends, as he knew very well that he would return eventually like he had done several times in the past. The doctor had made sure to only have repurposed non-essential parts of the shuttle for the Multi-Portal Generator. Soon, Eggman was able to begin flying away with the shuttle. When he received word from Orbot that he and Cubot had been found by Gemerl, Eggman had Metal Sonic attack him and retrieve the duo robots. On the shuttle, Cubot tried complimenting Eggman, only for him to shoot it down to tell him not to suck up to him as crashing the Faceship was a necessary evil. Orbot soon discovered the head of E-123 Omega, the latest of his E-100 series who now hated him. Eggman stated that he knew how to use Omega in order to crush Sonic's friends and needed to take advantage of Sonic's absence. Eggman then detected that Shadow was gaining on them and sent Metal Sonic to slow him down so that they could reach a secure escape altitude. Soon, Metal Sonic completed his mission and Eggman flew the shuttle away from Angel Island.
Back in his lab, Eggman fixed Omega with a new body and told him that he will use him for a new special project. Orbot reported to Eggman that the Zombots did a number on his bases, and while Zavok was defeated and imprisoned, the other members of the Deadly Six were still at large. Realizing that there was nothing for it, Eggman decided to move onto his next project before Sonic could inevitably return and ruin it as usual. He also had to factor in the Deadly Six since the Cacophonic Conch was lost in the Faceship crash, meaning he was quite defenseless against them. Eggman then remembered that Starline was another potential concern but he did not know where he was. Soon after, the doctor crashed Tangle's party in Spiral Hill Village with his Giga Omega mecha (which incorporated Omega as its core) and prepared to destroy his foes. As Eggman began shelling Spiral Hill Village, he succeeded in paralyzing Gemerl with Giga Omega's tethers and incorporating him into Giga Omega, doubling its computing power. Eggman later noticed that Tails and Rouge were sabotaging his Giga Omega from behind, which resulted in them freeing Gemerl from it. In response, Eggman pulled out a laser pistol and fired a shot at Tails, but missed. Moments later, Omega blocked Giga Omega's fire due to a conflict between wanting to destroy Eggman and being forced to eliminate his enemies. Sonic's friends then proceeded to launch another attack, prompting Eggman to try shooting his laser pistol at them. After Cheese hit him on the back of the head, Eggman closed his cockpit and brought Omega under control. He then intended to stop toying with his enemies and just annihilate them, but then Sonic returned in a fiery blast and released Omega from Giga Omega. Omega then blew up Giga Omega, both of them having Eggman beaten and frocing him to fly away in his Egg Mobile. While Eggman was livid that Sonic had once again spoiled his plans, Sonic wanted Eggman to come closer, and Eggman had a feeling that Sonic wanted to pay him back for the Metal Virus pandemic. Eggman, however, decided to withdraw to plan his next scheme, claiming the day is still his for he destroyed the party.
Eventually, Dr. Eggman and Orbot arrived at one of his bases which had been attacked the day before. Though Orbot showed Eggman that Sonic had been caught by the security cameras and thus seemed like the culprit, Eggman noticed several flaws about the clues left behind, doubting Sonic and Tails being involved in the assault. Eggman thus suspected that someone else was really behind the raid and decided to find out who it was. Later, Eggman received information about an attack on one of his Eggnet hubs. As he sent Balkirys out to bomb the area, Orbot informed him about an update from the Eggnet that said that Sonic was now attacking a warehouse twenty miles north. Looking at the report, Eggman deduced that it could not be just a glitch. Orbot suggested that maybe Tails was trying to confuse them. In spite of everything though, Eggman decided to check both locations by bombing them and then shifting through the ashes. He subsequently set off in his Egg Hawk. As Eggman was on his way, however, he received an updated report from Orbot. As it turned out, the report about the attack on the warehouse was false. In reality, Zavok was attacking the Eggnet hub. Eggman thus decided to head there with his squadron. He subsequently contacted Zavok via the Eggnet hub's main computer, through which he told Zavok of his intent to get rid of him once and for all, even if he had to destroy one of his vital outposts in the process. In response, Zavok fired at Eggman and his squadron with the Eggnet hub's armaments and Badniks. Despite this, Eggman eventually managed to turn the tide and bomb the hub into rubble. After returning to his HQ, Eggman learned from Orbot that they had found no trace of Zavok, which meant the Zeti was still alive and loose. Eggman also suspected that Zavok was not behind the recent attacks; while he did participate in them, he was still unfamiliar with his technology and Power Cores. This made Eggman suspect that someone else was working against him.
Deciding that the world's limitations no longer satisfied him, Eggman built a tower for bending the bend the laws of physics outside the coast of Seaside City. This tower would affect the weather, creating unnatural storms. In that tower's test chambers, Eggman created a space-denying maze for trapping Sonic in, which he tested out by sending Badniks into it despite knowing that they would burn out before they could escape. He also built a model of a town inside the tower's test chambers, which he used to test how quickly his Badniks could take over a town to "recruit" test subjects. Then, as a final feature in the tower, Eggman began creating Quasi-Badniks in order to discover new ways to best dominate whatever environment they would find themselves in. Nonetheless, while he worked in a remote location, Eggman had Orbot and Cubot continue his work in the tower.
While busy brainstorming, Eggman was contacted by Orbot and Cubot from the tower of his. Irked by his henchbots' interruption, Eggman learned from them that Sonic, Tails, and Amy were currently inside his test chambers. Instead of being furious, however, Eggman saw an opportunity in this situation and decided to take advantage of it by testing his new mechanical creations on the heroic trio. Establishing radio communication with Sonic from his position through kitchen appliances in his test chambers, Eggman gloated about Sonic and his friends' whereabouts and what he intended to do to them. When Sonic and co. tried to escape their test chamber, Eggman assumed control of the area and reversed gravity there. He then brought the trio to a room where he had them face an upgraded Egg Viper. After the heroes destroyed this Egg Viper however, Eggman sent three new Egg Vipers after them, each one with different skills. Meanwhile, Eggman steered his creations with his personal VR headset, giving him a significant advantage. Eggman continued to apply pressure to his foes until Tangle intruded upon the battle. Eggman proceeded to contact Orbot and Cubot about what they were doing that had let Tangle enter his test chambers. On the other end of the call however, he discovered Belle the Tinkerer. Setting his Egg Vipers on autopilot to focus on Belle, Eggman recognized Belle as a helper robot that he built when he was the amnesiac "Mr. Tinker". He then wanted her to remain where she was while he dealt with Sonic and co. However, Belle protested against this and pleaded for an reasonable reason for his evil deeds in this tower. He thus started telling her about the tower she was in, trying to convince her to stop looking at his old persona and to admire him as a genius of evil, only for Belle to drop the call. Returning to his Egg Vipers, Eggman saw that his foes had taken advantage of his absence to weaken his Egg Vipers. Fed up with them, he had all three Egg Vipers charge at the heroes. However, they managed to escape. Eggman would then receive a shock from his headset when his tower imploded from an overloaded test chamber portal.
Dr. Eggman eventually appeared in Winterburg in a snowman-based mech while tracking the Deadly Six. However, he soon encountered Sonic. While Sonic teased and fought him, Eggman would tell him about him reason for coming to Winterburg. Afterward, Sonic destroyed Eggman's Egg Base near Winterburg, prompting Eggman to fly away in his Egg Mobile while cursing Sonic.
Traveling to Angel Island, Eggman would use a large drilling vehicle to mine for rare minerals in the underground of Marble Garden. However, his reckless drilling caused some unusual quakes in the region that caught the attention of Knuckles. Eventually, when Eggman emerged from a wall in Marble Garden, he came across Team Heroes. Displeased to find three of his most hated enemies there to spoil his work, Eggman used his vehicle to make rocks on the ceiling rain down upon them. When the trio still fought back though, Eggman tried burying them alive by triggering an earthquake with his vehicle. Unfortunately, Team Heroes survived this, and using teamwork, they brought down Eggman's vehicle. As he escaped Angel Island in his Egg Mobile though, Eggman claimed victory by having caused reasonable damage to Knuckles' estate with Tails shouting back it's him, Sonic and knuckles that won cause they've foiled his plans.
Back in his headquarters in Eggperial City, Eggman would discover Orbot and Cubot's return after a prolonged absence. Although it was obvious that Orbot was trying over up something, Eggman did not care, as he currently needed them to hook up to the Eggnet and give him a sitrep of a present attack on Eggperial City that was seemingly being committed by Sonic and Tails. When Orbot revealed that the details they received on the intruders were incongruent with Sonic and Tails' profiles however, Eggman was shown a visual of the real intruders: Surge the Tenrec and Kitsunami the Fennec. With Orbot unable to deduce their identities, Eggman decided to deal with the duo by sending Metal Sonic after them. When Metal Sonic got defeated, Eggman raged over Surge's lack of respect until Cubot revealed to him that Dr. Starline was in his servers. Eggman demanded an explanation, having expected Starline to come groveling back to him instead of this. As Starline proclaimed that he was succeeding him however, Starline took control of all of Eggman robots around the world with an override code. As his robots in his headquarters moved in to apprehend him, Eggman squashed Orbot and Cubot and escaped through a chute to his Memorial Garage. There, Eggman had some thoughts about how he believed he had time refurbish his old mechs, before settling on the Egg Emperor and activating its offline mode.
Now armed with the Egg Emperor, Eggman attacked Starline, who had seized control of Eggperial City, in his HQ. After Starline got a shot in on the Egg Emperor using his Tricore though, the former escaped, leaving Eggman to search for him while admitting to Starline that he had not expected such cunning from him after further investigating Zavok's involvement in raiding his base and escape from prison. As he ordered Starline to reveal himself, however, Starline arrived in the Super Eggrobo. As they fought, Starline futilely tried to reason with Eggman, noting that they could conquer the world together if they followed his plan, but Eggman refused to share power. After their fight took them underground, Eggman managed to defeat the Super Eggrobo, only for Starline to emerge from the mech and activate his Tricore's Tricore Blast, which destroyed the Egg Emperor. Eggman, however, survived and emerged from the destroyed machine, announcing that he had deliberately chosen the Egg Emperor because he knew Starline was using the Power Cores he had stolen. Eggman also knew that Starline would use up the power of his Tricore, the very same power that once defeated the Egg Emperor, just to prove his point. Starline then tried to hypnotize Eggman, but Eggman put on his goggles, which immunized him against this effect. Eggman then admitted that he had also been listening to Starline's boasts about his inventions, which let him to take precautions against them. Desperately, Starline tried to attack Eggman with his heel spurs, but Eggman narrowly dodged before grabbing him by the exposed leg and slamming him into the ground, before taking his glove from him. Immediately after, Eggman noticed that Belle had arrived with a repaired Metal Sonic. Belle told him that she had read the letter Eggman had left her when he was still Mr. Tinker and that she had come to say goodbye. Eggman, however, did not understand why she was so attached to him. At first, he thought he would have to force her to fight Metal Sonic. However, he was pleasantly surprised to learn that Belle had repaired Metal Sonic and that she was able to interface with his robots. Eggman thus offered to join him as his mechanic. Belle refused and decided to return to her friends. Finding this amusing, Eggman headed back to the surface with Metal Sonic, just before the corridor collapsed. Regaining control of Eggperial City afterwards, Eggman announced to Sonic, Tails, and Belle, who were in the city, that his city was not yet ready for sightseeing and that the situation was made worse by Starline. Nevertheless, he proceeded to pit all his gathered Badniks against them.
Eggman recognized Sonic was baiting to focus on him while his other friends made their escape. He told Metal Sonic to not go after Sonic, but track down the others and intercept them so they won't escape. Eggman also asks for Metal to keep Belle intact if possible, as she sees her as useful in the long run. Eggman then intercepted Sonic remotely with the Egg Monitor and told him he was surprised to see him standing still on top of a building. He then made it clear for him to not get comfortable and ordered Badniks to tear down the building he was on, saying he was willing to tear down his city to bury him in the rubble. Eggman continued to mock Sonic as he fought the Badnik horde, but became frustrated with how easily he was destroying them. As more Badniks kept going at Sonic, Eggman gawked about him slowing down and how he was considering getting one of his mechs to fight Sonic himself. A shuttle then flies over Sonic and Eggman becomes irate for Sonic stealing his stuff. The Egg Monitor followed Sonic into the shuttle and when Sonic asked if he gave up, Eggman simply said he didn't want to rob Metal Sonic of his moment. Metal then blasted through the shuttle, causing it to crash. Eggman's laughs could be heard on the now broken Egg Monitor.
Eggman heard an explosion from a storage room in the tower. He went to investigate with Orbotand yelled at Cubot for supposedly causing it. He then heard Surge admit she caused it and turned to her. Eggman recognized Surge as one of people Starline came into Eggperial City with. He asked if she was a mercenary, but then realized he didn't care and ordered his Egg Pawns to shoot her. As they fired at her, Eggman wondered why she was using the Dynamo Cage as a hat. Orbot then got his attention and he saw Surge had absorbed the blasts by the Badniks. Eggman yelled at Surge, saying that's not how the Dynamo Cage works. Surge then destroyed the Egg Pawns and pounced onto Eggman. Surge said it's her toy now and she gets to use it how she wants to. Surge zapped Eggman's nose and said she will be back to take him out. After she left, Eggman did repairs on Metal Sonic and heard an inventory report from Orbot. Eggman wondered aloud how she used the Dynamo Cage, since it was not used in its intended way. He also noted whatever Starline put in her is having a radical effect on the Dynamo Cage. Eggman then declared he must know and left with Metal Sonic to hunt for Surge.
Eggman tracked down the Dynamo Cage's location to Starline's secret base. He arrived at the base in his Eggwalker and a legion of Egg Pawns, but Sonic and Tails were there before them. Metal went ahead and attacked Sonic without Eggman's orders, much to his anger. Before he could tell him to come back, he saw Tails and he followed him into the base. Tails managed to outrun him and Eggman stopped to find a shortcut. As he looked for the energy signature from the Dynamo Cage, he noticed it was on top of him. He then shot into the ceiling with his blaster, just missing Surge. Surge then dropped down onto the walker and Eggman threw her off into the Egg Pawns. She easily destroyed them, but that was to distract her from Eggman's main attack. He shot rockets at Surge from his Eggwalker, but Surge dodged them by going under the walker. Eggman then put his walker into over mode to burn Surge, but she used the Cyan Wisp laser power to take out a leg of the machine. Eggman fell out and crawled to a control panel. As Surge took the Chaos Drive out of the Eggwalker, Eggman typed an access code to escape via an escape hatch. As he bragged about his escape, the hatch didn't open and a recorded message from Doctor Starline started to play, saying he broke his secret codes. Eggman looked in fear as Surge closed in on him. Eggman tried to negotiate with Surge, but she was only interested in beating him. Metal Sonic came in to defend Eggman and when Surge grabbed Metal, Eggman kicked Surge off of him. Sonic and Tails then arrived and Surge ran off.
Eggman explained to Sonic and Tails he was here to take back the Dynamo Cage. Eggman took a drink while the two heroes discussed what to do. Sonic offered to help Eggman get the device back if they didn't hurt them in the process. Eggman did a spit take at the idea, but he was up for a truce, seeing their help as useful but not willing to admit Metal Sonic can't do it alone. They walked down the only way that was open to them. Eggman noted they wouldn't help them if Surge only attacked Sonic and Tails. They soon went into a room where Starline kept notes about his Operation: Remaster. Eggman praised Starline's work and admitted he was impressed by it. Tails was disgusted by what Starline did and told Eggman if he just recognized Starline's abilities, Surge and Kit would have never been created. Eggman admits that, but says he would never admit that to someone who was still alive. Sonic says he's heard enough and they go into another room where they find Surge and Kit waiting to fight them.
The two heroes and Metal Sonic began to fight Surge and Kit. Eggman tried to sneak away as Sonic and Metal fought Surge. Surge saw this and went to grab Eggman. When Metal tried to stop her, she grabbed Metal and hit Sonic with it. When Metal Sonic trapped Surge in the Black Shield, Eggman gloated about how great his machines were, only for Surge to use Eggman's Dynamo Cage to absorb the energy from the shield. After Surge destroyed some cryogenic tubes and got water over the floor, Eggman grabbed Sonic off the floor just before Surge electrocuted it. He let Sonic go, saying his sense of self-preservation is terrible. Eggman told Sonic the Dynamo Cage is going to overload soon and to keep buying time as he gets Metal Sonic fixed. By the time the Dynamo Cage overloaded, Eggman had Metal repaired and ordered him to collect the device and Surge. Sonic says that wasn't the deal, but Eggman snaps back that he wasn't going to hold his end up either. Kit stopped Metal from attacking Surge, causing Eggman to yell out of him to stay out of the fight. Kit then grabbed everyone in the room with his water coils and destroyed the room while escaping with Surge. Eggman tried to escape with Metal, but was buried by some rubble. He was uninjured and called the whole experience a waste of time. Finishing his orders to Metal, he noticed Sonic and Tails were still alive as well. He offered to keep the truce, which they accepted since they needed to return Wisps Surge stole to Whisper. Eggman then returned to Eggperial City with Metal Sonic.
Doctor Eggman made it back to his Eggperial City with Metal Sonic. When Sonic and the Diamond Cutters infultrated the city, Eggman spotted them and sent a Spatial-Displacement Trap to get them. Soon, Sonic, Tails, Amy, Silver, Blaze, and Team Dark were attacking the city. At this point, Eggman gave a proper welcome to the invaders by introducing his self-repairing and building city over the city's PA system. Eggman then dropped a horde of Shadow Androids into the fray to "show them around the city". He watched from the control room of the central tower of the city while eating popcorn as his Shadow Androids attacked the unwelcomed guests. Eggman gloated to Orbotand Cubot how great his plan was going and how good his Shadow Androids were. When Shadowtapped into the Giant Fake Chaos Emeralds to use Chaos Control, it overloaded the city's computer system. Eggman grumbled how he knew Shadow would cause troubble and activated the emergency limiter, causing the power system to restart. He gloated that Shadow's attempt was cute, but it would take more thant that to destory his city. When the power came back on, Eggman used the computer to search for the invaders.
Only secounds later, the Diamond Cutters appeared in front of the doctor. Eggman looked over them and said he had seen Tangle and Whisper before. He said they ran into his Spatial-Displacement Trap and they almost got out of it when the power dipped. He then revealed the new models of the trap, saying they would shatter their atoms into oblivion. Whisper then shot Eggman with her Variable Wispon, but it went right through him. With a smile on his face, Eggman stated his trap separated Whisper's wisps from normal space and they can't touch him. The Spatial-Displacement Trap then captured Whisper and Lanolin. Eggman menacingly told Tangle she had no where to run and no way to fight as a trap surrounded her.
Tangle was able to phase through the glass wall of the control room and fell to the city bellow. Eggman sent Metal Sonic and a trap to capture her. Later, he noted how Shadow's Chaos Control is making fake emeralds unstable. This pleased him becuase the more they grew, the more powerful his city becomes. Orbot was concerned the infastructure of the city wouldn't be able to keep up. Eggman assured him the safeguards he put in place will keep them at pace and if they overloaded again, he will just reboot the system. Just then, Sonic, Tails, and Amy ran into the room with Tangle on top of Metal Sonic. Eggman blamed Metal for letting them in and was knocked out of his seat by Amy. As Amy kept her hammer on him, Eggman got a laser pistol out of his sleve and shot Amy's hammer out of her hand. This gave Metal and opening to knock down Sonic. Eggman then tried to grab Tails, but he spun his tails in his face as he turned off the computer system's safe guards. Tails was able to finish his command just as Eggman pulled him off. He yelled at Tails, saying he had no idea what he did by allowing the emerald's growth to be unchecked. The city started to be destroyed by the rapidly growing emeralds. Eggman pressed a button on his coat, which made the main tower of the city activate a mobile mode.
Eggman then declared that he won, telling Sonic his creations can handle him. He then snapped his fingers and a Spatial-Displacement Trap surrounded and trapped Sonic. Eggman then sent Metal Sonic to take out Amy and Tails. Tangle tried to intervene and when she was able to interact with reality again, Eggman grabbed her. He wasn't impressed by Tangle's comeback and put his gun against her head before she could do anything. Eggman told her she made a mistake joining the Restoration, but he then heard someone say it's better than having thing his way. He saw Lanolin walk up to him and asked who she was. Lanolin explained to Eggman they were the Diamond Cutters and Whisper hit Eggman away from Tangle and the others with the Blue Hammer mode of her Wispon. Eggman screamed his city was perfect and ordered Metal to crush them before the heroes got away. Metal was kicked out of the tower by Sonic and he also crushed his gun. Furious, Eggman got up and called Sonic names, but Sonic told him he went too far and he knows what he is going to do next. Eggman fell to the ground as Sonic rolled out of the tower.
Eggman then got into the tower's controls and declared his traps a waste of time and energy. He took control of the tower, declaring he will bury his city with them in it. Eggman fired upon the Fake Chaos Emerald tower Shadow made, saying he worked too hard to let his city go. He was shocked by Fake Emeralds teleporting around the tower. Shadow told him the Emeralds connect his entire city, and with them under his own control, Eggman had built his own cage. Eggman cursed Shadow as his tower was trapped and begged Sonic not to destroy the tower, saying there would be nothing to divert the Emerald's power if his city was destroyed. Sonic ignored his pleas and destroyed the tower, leaving Eggman's fate unknown as the city was destroyed around him.
Dr. Eggman decided to test out the abilities of the Egg Shogun Z on an abandoned city. The test was interrupted, however, by the sudden arrival of the Warp Topaz through a portal, followed closely by Sonic the Hedgehog. Wishing to keep the gem for himself, the doctor attacked Sonic with the Egg Shogun Z, only for the hedgehog to dodge the strikes from both its firsts and its Shining Yolk Blade by escaping through portals. Eggman then had the Egg Shogun Z launch a barrage of missiles at Sonic, one of which the hedgehog jumped onto, steering it back towards the Egg Shogun Z. The missile impacted the Egg Shogun Z, exploding, and creating a diversion which allowed Sonic to escape, much to Eggman's fury.
During an attempt to find Eggman, Knuckles and the Chaotix attacked Egg Base Delta, destroying many Badniks to lure Eggman out. Eggman appeared by using the Egg Monitor. He demanded to know why they were destroying his things after already destroying his previous schemes. He became more frustrated when Knuckles accused him of stealing one of Angel Island's relics.
After learning Vector had suggested it was Eggman, the doctor scolded them before admitting while he took many things, it was his robots that managed the cataloguing of all they took for him. Eggman clarified his robots would also take the objects, not the Babylon Rouges as the group previously assumed. After asking Knuckles if it held any arcane properties, who claimed it didn't, Eggman simply shouted he doesn't have or cares about what they are looking for and demanded they leave, which they do.
In one of his bases, Eggman was watching reality TV for his research, which Orbot and Cubotnoticed. They saw his notes and made their own show themselves, kidnapping Sonic and his friends in the process. When Omega began to destroy the set, Eggman arrived at the scene and Cubot pressed a button that sent Sonic's friends out of arena and back to Green Hill. Eggman thought the show was garbage and deleted the whole thing, including his own research, throwing a fit in the process.
After Sonic, Tails, and Amy were disqualified from the race, they're talking about it at the dinner, but then, Eggman comes in with an offer to find out who's behind the race and Clean Sweep Inc. in general. As Sonic asked the reason, he explains because of humiliation he saw on TV, and he begun working on the his newest invention. But as he was explaining his reason, he got the food he ordered, and begun eating. As Tails was curious what's inside Eggman's bag, Eggman told him to see himself. As Tails opened the bag, he saw something that made his eyes sparking; Eggstreme Gear! Eggman and Sonic made a truce, once again.
Suddenly the Eggstreme Gear transforms into a battle robot with a monitor that has Dr. Eggman's face on it. Now in full control of the Eggstreme Gear, he charges at Clutch and grabs him, introducing himself to the opossum and admonishing him for his mockery and use of the Eggman Empire's property for his own gain. Eggman attempts to blow Clutch up with missiles, only for Sonic to intervene, remarking that this was not part of the deal. As they continue fighting, Sonic demands that Clutch apologize and fix his mess, tackling him to the ground while Eggman grabs Sonic. Surge then charges up and releases a massive blast of electricity on the three of them, which manages to knock Clutch out cold but also wear Surge herself out. However, Eggman reveals he built the Eggstreme Gear to be resistant to Surge's powers and picks up the unconscious Clutch. Sonic, still recovering from the blast, asks what Eggman is planning, to which he answers that it is just business and nothing for Sonic to worry about before flying away with Clutch.
After the destruction of Restoration HQ, Eggman would attach a tick bug-like egg tech device to Clutch's head, as well as forcing the latter to work for him, profiting off Clean Sweep Inc. to make way for the Eggman Empire. After Sonic and the Chaotix left White Park Chateau after interrogating Clutch, the latter then walks to a Picky animatron and twiddles its head, opening a secret passage. Clutch is now in a room with many monitors, then Eggman appears in the screens. Clutch informs his new boss about Sonic and the Chaotix's arrival, as well their upcoming arrival to the nearest Clean Sweep base, letting Eggman do whatever he wants with them there. Eggman is impressed but still demands more details. Sweating nervously, Clutch takes off his hat, showing the device attached to his head, and tells Eggman he lied to the heroes, and that they have no idea Eggman is profiting off Clean Sweep Inc. to expand the Eggman Empire. Eggman is satisfied and dismisses Clutch before hanging up.
Some time after the Gemerl incident, after realizing the Paradox Prism would take months to dig out normally, Dr. Eggman found an alternative way to gain the gemstone. Eggman set his machine, the Eggcrusher loose on Sonic while hiding away, installing a Power Amplifier inside it. Eggman also released a horde of Badniks in order to keep Sonic's teammates Amy and Knucklesdistracted so they wouldn't attack the mech. The Eggcrusher faced Sonic and eventually Tails who joined, where Eggman spoke through it, goading Sonic with insults, angering Sonic into attacking the machine. Using Sonic's speed, Eggman amplified the force of the blow to cause a large energy blast which weakened the bedrock surrounding the Paradox Prism's cavern.
Immediately Eggman moved out with Orbot, Cubot, a new mech, and a horde of Badniks to retrieve the gemstone, proclaiming to his minions he would now usher in the new age of the Eggman Empire. To prevent his drilling operations at the top of the mountain being noticed, Eggman used several Caterkillers to generate a fake cloud around the mountain's peak, masking his scheme from outside view.
After entering the cavern and locating the Paradox Prism, Eggman was interrupted by Sonic's friends, Tails, Amy, Knuckles and Rouge, who had suspected the Doctor's plan to steal the Prism, and defeated the Badniks guarding the cavern's entrance. To Eggman's surprise, soon after Sonic himself arrived, though the doctor composed himself and ordered most of the remaining Badniks to attack, while a select group of Burrobots dug away at the crater that's holding the Paradox Prism.
Most of Eggman's Badniks were destroyed by the heroes, however, and those mining the rock around the prism were unable to loosen the gem. Seeing this, Eggman quickly decided to get the gemstone himself using his own mech, grabbing the Paradox Prism and attempting to rip it out of the ground. Sonic attempted to stop Eggman, who refused to yield, having nearly freed the gemstone for himself. Despite the warnings of Sonic's friends, Sonic charged at Eggman, performing a Spin Attack, only to miss Eggman to intentionally prevent him from getting the Prism, shattering it into Shards, and creating a blast which created Shatter Variants of himself and Sonic's teammates across dimensions (Shatterspaces) in the Shatterverse. His alternate counterparts in New Yoke City are the Chaos Council, which consists of Mr. Dr. Eggman, Dr. Babble, Dr. Deep, Dr. Don't and Dr. Done-It. Unlike other characters, Eggman doesn't have any other alternative versions in the other Shatterspaces. Eggman's current whereabouts are unknown.
When the Chaos Council get to Ghost Hill, Mister Doctor Eggman uses most the remaining Shard Energy left in the Mothership to create a Prismatic Titan in the form of the original Eggman. Sonic is able to defeat the Titan by using the form that was granted to him due to the additional Prism Energy Nine gave him, known as Shatter Sonic.
Once Green Hill is finally restored, the timeline resets to a point before the Prism incident. Eggman is still fighting Sonic and friends. He grabs the Prism while Sonic races towards him. Eggman is confused when Sonic hugs the cockpit of his mech instead of attacking it. Eggman gets mad and punches the hedgehog. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy and Rouge fight together and defeat Eggman. He is surprised when Shadow shows up and steals the Paradox Prism, hiding it somewhere hidden. The doctor tells Orbot and Cubot that they need to build a bigger fleet, and they escape the cave.

His conquest used three things: the robots he had built for Mobotropolis, Kodos's plans, and the Roboticizer. Julian had discovered Sir Charles Hedgehog's research and sabotaged the project, making the would-be medical miracle a tool for enslavement. He conquered the city in hours, and then renamed himself "Doctor Ivo Robotnik" after his father and maternal grandfather. He then set about conquering Mobius. While he was met with resistance, nothing kept him attention more than the Knothole Freedom Fighters - especially Sonic the Hedgehog. Here, time takes two paths; in the Prime Zone, Dr. Robotnik's war ended with the firing of the Ultimate Annihilator. Thanks to Snively's treachery, Dr. Robotnik was erased from existence. In another timeline, however, his final battle with Sonic led to him being roboticized and his body destroyed. He uploaded his mind to an incomplete satellite where he eventually met his Prime counterpart and was inspired to strike back. The alternate Robotnik succeeded in rebuilding his body and destroying all life on his Mobius.
He then traveled across time and space to conquer Mobius Prime. Although his robot body was destroyed a few times, he uploaded his consciousness into a new body, now commonly called "Doctor Eggman". He hated the nickname, but in an effort of self-empowerment, he embraced it, and called his territory the Eggman Empire. Dr. Robotnik's robot body was later transformed into flesh-and-blood by the Bem as part of an experiment, but it did not change his lethal desires. Despite repeated defeats, setbacks and even death itself, Dr. Robotnik continued to rule with an iron first and an even darker, stronger will.
In the timeline created by the Super Genesis Wave, Ivo Robotnik was inspired by the achievements of his grandfather, Gerald, to become a great scientist. A young Robotnik would begin his scientific and military career by joining the United Federation's armed forces, G.U.N. However, at some point, he became power-hungry and began to plot to annex the entire world in his own empire. Eventually, however, he was discovered by another G.U.N. technician, Dr. Julian Snively, whom he forced to cooperate with him. After that, the doctors left G.U.N. in their quest to conquer the world. With help from the Royal Wizard Walter Naugus, Robotnik and Snively were able to reach to the Kingdom of Acorn to trick Nigel Acorn into thinking that the United Federation was conspiring against the kingdom and planning an assault on it. Nigel believed this lie, and granted the two full access to the kingdom's vast resources. However, Robotnik revealed his true cards and sent Nigel and Naugus to the Special Zone. Faced with no opposition, the doctor took over the Kingdom of Acorn and began overexploiting its natural resources to find the mystical Chaos Emeralds.
However, Robotnik, now having embraced the nickname "Eggman", soon after saw his plans falling apart due to the interference of Sonic the Hedgehog, who liberated the Kingdom of Acorn from his dictatorship and inspired the creation of the Freedom Fighters, a group of rebels that opposed his plans. Nevertheless, Eggman did not give up, and began plotting new schemes over the years to defeat Sonic for good and assure his total conquest of the planet. His exploits led to several catasthophes that threatened Sonic's world and even the Prime Zone itself and far beyond, such as Perfect Chaos flooding Station Square, the use of weapons of mass destruction to subjugate the world, his testing of the Genesis Waves to split the planet into multiple pocket Zones, and almost having the Prime Zone combined with the Sol Zone. Fortunately, all of these plans were thwarted by Sonic and the Freedom Fighters before it was too late, but the doctor kept on trying. Following the Time Eater incident, Eggman cooperated with Dr. Wily, another evil scientist from Earth in another universe, to conquer their respective worlds, but their failure led to Sonic's world being shattered. The doctor attempted to use this incident to this advantage, but this plan failed too.
In the Sonic the Comic series published by Fleetway Editions, Dr. Ivo Robotnik was created during a laboratory accident involving the goodly scientist Dr. Ovi Kintobor, a rotten egg and the Chaos Emeralds. During the series he managed to send Sonic forward in time by six months, during which time he managed to conquer Mobius. Sonic and his friends formed a group of Freedom Fighters with the aim of overthrowing him, of which they eventually did which caused Robotnik to lose his sanity.
In the Sonic the Hedgehog film series produced by Paramount Pictures, Dr. Ivo Robotnik is a brilliant human scientist, growing up as an orphan and bullied in his childhood, he came to resent family and humanity in general as a result. After beginning his career, he would work closely with the United States government, known infamously for his knowledge with robotics.
Eventually, Dr. Ivo Robotnik was tasked with investigating the cause of a power outage in Green Hills. He soon met the cause, a young blue alien named Sonic the Hedgehog who could move at superhuman speeds. From there, he sought out to capture this creature in order to harness his unlimited power for his own means. However, in the end, he was defeated by the hedgehog and banished to the Mushroom Planet.
Months later, Dr. Ivo Robotnik managed to return to Earth with the help of Knuckles the Echidna, an alien echidna who was in search of Sonic and the Master Emerald. The doctor aided the echidna in his search for the gemstone, only to claim it for himself and later terrorize Green Hills. However, he was defeated through the combined efforts of Sonic, Tails and Knuckles.
