Garfield Logan, also known as Beast Boy and Changeling, is a member of the Doom Patrol and later Teen Titans, and is named for his ability to transform into any kind of animal at will. He is the jokester of the team and likes to mess around but is also very loyal to his friends. Even after losing his family and his adoptive family and being sold out by his first girlfriend Gar seems care-free and easy going preferring to look on the bright side of life rather than submitting to sorrow and angst.
As a child, Garfield Logan contracted a rare illness called Sakutia and was cured by a serum from a green monkey. This serum had the unintended effect of turning his skin and hair green and gave him the ability to change into any animal form.
Originally known as and reusing the alias, Beast Boy, he was adopted by Elasti-Girl and Mento, members of the Doom Patrol. He later joined Titans West, and was part of the New Teen Titans assembled by Raven. Upon joining the latter, took the name Changeling. He remained with various incarnations of the team, forming a close friendship with Cyborg.
He later began using the name Beast Boy again. Following a failed attempt to recreate Titans West as "Titans L.A.," he rejoined the main team.
He had also worked as an actor, playing the role of the alien Tork in the TV series Space Trek: 2022. The series was abruptly canceled when it was sued for plagiarizing other science fiction shows.
Whatever team he is part of, he likes to joke around with people and make jokes of the situations the team get themselves into. However, this is only a facade. In reality, Beast Boy has suffered many hardships in his life. Both his real parents passed away, and his foster mother, whom Garfield became very close to, died in battle along with virtually all of the other Doom Patrol members, while Gar was also part of the team. His foster father was driven mad by a helmet he used to fight enemies. He also fell in love with Terra (a member of the Teen Titans) and was heartbroken to discover that she was a traitor working for Deathstroke. Even after her death, he refused to believe for a long time that she was a traitor and blamed Slade for using her, until they eventually sat down and came to an understanding. As a result of all of this, he used his jokes to cover the fact that he was scared of losing anyone else he grew close to. Despite all of his hardships, Garfield was friendly and upbeat.
His best friend was Cyborg. He was also close with Bette "Flamebird" Kane, a former Titan who helped save his life on an adventure in Los Angeles.
After trying to hold together a ragtag band of Titans, once Robin returned, Beast Boy left the team to rejoin the Doom Patrol and aid his adoptive parents. Following attacks on various former Titans, it was determined that the sons of Trigon were trying to destroy the group to establish a name for themselves. The Titans decided to reform to combat the threat. At the same time, Beast Boy tried to reconcile with Raven.
The newly formed Titans slowly broke apart, with Gar rejoining the Teen Titans in order to polish them up, after seeing their performance under the leadership of Wonder Girl. Raven followed soon after.
During the events of Blackest Night, Beast Boy and the Titans were forced to fight Terra, who was resurrected from death as a member of the evil Black Lantern Corps
Through an unspecified incident, Garfield was granted the metahuman ability to act as a conduit for The Red, a semi-mystical energy field connected to all animal life on Earth; this connection turned his skin green and allowed him to take on the shape of any animal. After Garfield Logan's parents died, he was taken by Nicholas Galtry, who sought to access the fortune belonging to Garfield's parents—and, to this end, he attempted to have Garfield killed. Later, Garfield Logan was a member of an early iteration of the Doom Patrol and was taken in by members Mento and Rita Farr as adoptive parents.
Later, he became a member of the New Teen Titans. During his tenure on the team, he had a brief but disastrous relationship with Terra and developed a long-lasting enmity for team enemy Deathstroke.
Garfield Logan was among hundreds of young metahumans held captive by the organization N.O.W.H.E.R.E., experimented on at the shadowy organizations gigantic underground base, the Colony. He was forced to participate in the annual Culling tournament, where the captives held by N.O.W.H.E.R.E. were forced to either kill or be killed. For reasons unknown (potentially as a result of experimentation by N.O.W.H.E.R.E., his formerly green skin became red during this period, and he appeared somewhat smaller and younger than he had during earlier adventures.
Along with the Teen Titans and time-displaced members of the Legion of Super-Heroes, Beast Boy joined a group of captives who, instead of playing the deadly game as expected, decided to break out of the Colony. With the help of Dr. Caitlin Fairchild, Beast Boy escaped with several other refugees from the Colony.
After escaping, Beast Boy and Terra separated from the main group of refugees. While Harvest, the leader of N.O.W.H.E.R.E., claimed to have meant to scatter his subjects around the world, he took a special interest in tracking down Gar and bringing him back into N.O.W.H.E.R.E. Meanwhile, Gar began to have strange visions of a dangerous man bathing in blood.
After his fellow Ravagers were taken, Beast Boy was left for dead in the rubble of the facility. Eventually he was approached by Raven, who proceeded to touch him. After he awoke he asked if Harvest had sent her for him, however Raven began to take over Garfield's mind and teleported them to New York. She planned to use him as her minion in the battle between her father Trigon and the Teen Titans. Beast Boy and Raven appeared before the Titans during their battle with Psimon. Under Raven influence, Beast Boy pulled the Titans and Psimon away from their fight. When Psimon killed the police reinforcements, Beast Boy saw him and squeezed him, resulting in both of them cancelling out each other's powers and rendering each other unconscious. Beast Boy regained consciousness during the Teen Titans' fight against Trigon and his sons in New York City, and assisted them in battle.
When all of Earth's greatest heroes were gone and the Crime Syndicate of America had taken over the world, the Teen Titans attempted to challenge the Crime Syndicate. However, they were easily overpowered by Johnny Quick and Atomica and were then flung into the time stream. However, Red Robin, Wonder Girl and Raven eventually returned from the 30th century Bunker and Beast Boy reunited with them while fighting The Light and The Way. While one of the brothers disappeared the other one was taken down by Skitter, Grymm planted a bomb to kill the Titans, Beast Boy knocked him out before he could reveal where he planted it and although Raven found out where it was, it detonated nevertheless and almost killed them.
The Titans reunited for one last time to stop Harvest's new colony. When they arrived at the colony they discovered that the victims of the Culling were somehow resurrected, they eventually found out Harvest was extracting their metagenes to create a massive DNA strand for his use. While the rest of the Titans were battling Harvest, Raven destroyed the strand, however Harvest was caught in the explosion that it's destruction caused.
Eventually, Garfield's skin returned to its original green hue. Later, Red Robin decided to reform the Titans. They stopped a terrorist group that was taking a school bus hostage, however their leader managed to get away. After that, Garfield and Miguel went to a S.T.A.R. Labs building to stop a fire caused by the same person but after Bunker realized that she was a robot, he simply blew up his head and stopped the fire. However, the robot returned and attacked Raven in a bar at the Bowery, Raven quickly called the Titans for help and Wonder Girl destroyed the robot once again. The robot reformed again and attacked Red Robin while he was hacking into S.T.A.R. Labs files. The Titans got a distress call from Red Robin and they went to S.T.A.R. Labs but when they arrived he had already taken down the robot and decided to work with it's creator Manchester Black. But being skeptical about the offer, he had Beast Boy sneak into S.T.A.R. Labs. He was almost caught an employee but said employee was shot and Garfield was to take him to an hospital before the building was blown up by an experimental fission device.
The Titans soon arrived to the scene of the explosion and Raven healed the employee, Manchester Black revealed that the men who blew up S.T.A.R. Labs were planning to use weapons of mass destruction built by S.T.A.R., after Wonder Girl captured one of the terrorists, Raven read the man's mind and discovered that they planned to destroy Manhattan with a weapon nicknamed "The Eraser". The Titans stopped the terrorists from using The Eraser while being unknowingly watched by all of Manhattan using the terrorists' holo-projector.
After taking down the terrorists, Beast Boy became the host of Comedy Tonight. During a comedy show, a man jumped out of the crowd and attacked an actor, Garfield stopped him and later found out the man was just an actor.
After Superboy returned and supposedly massacred 21 people, Wonder Girl and Power Girlquit the Titans due to Tim's decision to defend Superboy. In turn, they were then invited in Manchester Black's new team The Elite.
After that the Titans went to hide from Black in Chicago, they tried to lay low but they were easily recognized on the street and after Superboy saved a woman from being crushed by a train, the Elite found their location. They attempted to run away but the Elite caught up to them and demanded that they hand over Superboy. Despite Wonder Girl's attempts to sort it out peacefully, the situation escalated quickly, resulting with a fight between Superboy and The Elite. Superboy then choose to leave while the Titans and The Elite teleported back to New York.
Some time after leaving the Teen Titans, Garfield tried to find meaning in his life by throwing a wild party in an abandoned house. After he failed to impress a girl he liked, he found himself knocked out and awoke in an unknown location alongside Starfire, his former teammate Raven, and the new Kid Flash. Garfield and the others found out that they had been kidnapped by Robin who intended for them to join his new incarnation of the Teen Titans, as he needed their help to take down his grandfather Ra's al Ghul and the League of Assassins.
Beast Boy, along with his former New Teen Titans alumni Nightwing, Raven, Cyborg, Donna Troy and Starfire formed an academy, named in honor of the believed-deceased Roy Harper to train new Titans. He also celebrated Nightwing's birthday with the rest of the staff and students. Gar participated in various training sessions at the academy and was sometimes called "Mister Changeling" by students. He along with Raven tried to help Billy Batson with his powers as they were malfunctioning and Gar later advised three students that were investigating the Red X case to stay away from the mystery.
When Gorilla Gregg sent Summer to alert the team about an attack that Grodd would unleash on New York City, Gar participated on the fight along with his fellow Titans. After the fight, Beast Boy went to talk to Gregg about his relationship with his uncle Grodd, comforting him and telling him that he needed to open up more to people.
Following the disappearance of the Justice League, Titans Academy was attacked by Deathstroke and his Secret Society of Super-Villains. Gar was caught trying to spy on the army; Slade shot him in the head, intending to use him as a message to his friends. He miraculously survived, aided by his shapeshifting abilities, but was left in critical condition.
Because of this experience, Gar fully believed he had died, resulting in him remaining in a catatonic state; Nightwing remained by his side while he recovered. As the Titans reunited to take on Deathstroke, Gar finally recovered from his injuries and joined his team, claiming that he had a score to settle. Beast Boy and the assembled heroes then fought against Deathstroke's forces.
An angered Gar directly went after Deathstroke, attacking him while saying that he was sick of him hurting his family. While Gar was unable to defeat him, Slade and his army were defeated by the rest of the heroes at the same time the Justice League returned.
Gar would later join his friends in a new iteration of the Titans.
And he is reprised by Greg Cipes in the English dub and Koki Miyata in the Japanese dub.
